Kind of the problem with new distilleries; not all whiskey needs 12 years on oak, but it needs some time. I've seen a lot of distilleries doing a lot of gins and vodkas to start with so that they can have some cash coming in the door while everything else spends time in barrels.
Yeah we were just checking it out. The three year old stuff is buried behind a bunch of newer barrels. Did a second run on a batch of rum.
Thanks for the info Cruiser. I've seen similar ramblings on other corners of the interwebz as well.
Gonna have to add EH Taylor to the list to try.
Added a drop of honey to mine...on the rocks too. Its a slow process but im trying to get to the point of straight up.
That bottle of OG114 I grabbed last week is about half empty already.
I blame the colder weather.
Just ordered a bottle of this...

Should be interesting.
Getting into a little taste of the 1792 port finished bourbon. Lil slutty but nice in front of the fire...
No, but their stuff has never failed to satisfy. Will have to hunt around and see if there's any to be had.
Bookers MSRP going to 99.99$ and number of batches dropping starting in the new year. Fuck that noise and time to find another barrel proofer I enjoy.
Been selling plenty of Elijah 12y barrel proof at ~$65. I've got nothing against Bookers but for $35 less I'll gladly sip that Elijah.
Agreed, the ECBP is great, but I haven't seen it on the shelves lately. If it pops up again I'll be sure to grab a few bottles. Bummed I didn't stock up last go around.
That's fucking insane for Bookers. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine bourbon but it sure as shit ain't $100 fine.
Been laying into the Woodford lately. Wife was back from business in Woodford Co. KY not too long ago and her friend at the horse park gave us a case - all in this year's Derby bottle design. :yourock: I can never have too much Woodford around. :D
Best pour for your bargain that I've seen lately (and really no surprise) is Eagle Rare. $30 for a great 10 year old Kentucky bourbon? Yes please. Show me another 10 y/o that drinks that well for that cheap. Funny though, Buffalo Trace must really be backlogged because I've noticed it's not on the shelves as much any more. Luckily I have a good honey hole.
I'll have to see of the local place has bookers for less. Around now Safeway usually does 30% off on all bourbons. There is one south of here on the way to Crystal that has a surprisingly good selection. I'm goning to be grabbing another bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel (IMO one the best values out there), and will see if they have some Bookers.
There is still some of the latest batch on the shelf where I am, usually at 49.99(Costco has it locally for 45).
Anyone tried the Knob Creek 2001 bottling? Local grocery store had two on the shelf for 129$. Was tempted, may go back today.
1.75 of Eagle Rare for $50? Yes please.
Just so happens my brother in law is at Buffalo Trace today with some college buddies. Here's what the guide told him regarding the production and scarcity we're seeing:
"BT made 204,000 barrels in 1970 vs 17,000 in 1993 - that's total production, bottom of the barrel shit all the way up to Pappy. He said his drunk tour guide preached "patience" and said the scarcity should response itself in 3-4 years."
I have a few bottles stocked away of Old Granddad 114, and glad I do--stopped at one of my local spots last night and they had some on the shelf for 49.99. Sitting right next to the bluegill batch of Bookers(the second to last one of 2016) for 99.99. Fucking MSRP isn't supposed to increase until January.
Luckily I picked up another two bottles of the 2016-05 batch ar Costco for 42.00 each.
LLS did Pappy/AC auction on Saturday. Proceeds went to charity. I'm not sure what everything went for exactly, but I know the 23 fetched $2,200, William Larue Weller $600, and the Old Rip $375. I was half paying attention and half browsing around the store. I settled for EH Taylor on sale for $35 ;-)
Since it hasn't been suggested, we should trade samples in this thread.
I just got two different barrel samples of Belle Meade, excited to try them tonight.
^I could get into trading samples.
Cracked a Midwinters Night Dram Act 4 Scene 2 last night. I've been excited to finally try it, and it's a wonderful sipper.
Glad to ship out a sample of Elijah barrel proof in exchange for something fun that I don't have in my collection. Not interested in pappy stuff but down for other bourbon or rye.
Edit: I'll grab a 100ml bottle of vodka at work and fill it with the Elijah. You drank it and then refill it with something else and send it back at your convenience.
Here's what I have opened:
Midwinters Night Dram
Old Granddad 114
Old Forester 1896 BiB
Old Heaven Hill BiB
Bookers 'off your rocker' and 'bluegill'
Weller SR
Whistlepig 10
Since this thread is back, I spent a long weekend in Louisville over Thanksgivingish for a funeral. Boy, is bourbon big there, duh. The only scotch one bar had was Dewars. I laughed. Worth a trip if you're close, lots of distillery tours. Nice town.
The upside of living here is bars have great bourbon selections, and reasonable prices, the downside is it is fucking impossible to get anything limited production or allocated. Great store picks though.
If you want scotch, Irish Rover is the place.
Any of you tried the new EH Taylor rye? Worth $70?
Cruiser, want to trade a Midwinter Night's Dram for that ECBP?
Cantdog, want to trade some Redemption 8 yo for some Whistlepig?
Or whatever.
Sure do! Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send a wee nip your way.
Be careful re shipping. Have a friend whose friend tried to ship a couple of jars of peach 'shine. Ended up leaking in an airport. Result was not what he expected. Had a shipping label on it from a supplier that enriched uranium for the Navy on it. Fine ended up being $20,000 plus.
Don't let it leak.
Anyone try the Stagg JR? Saw it on the shelf when I was buying my OGD 114 last week. My bottle is down to less than 1/2 full after the family got together last weekend. Left the bottle in the game room when I went to bed and I heard they had an interesting game of trival pursuit that ended with my brother needing a guide back to his room. Anyways thinking about trying something else when it's time to re-up.
