What a performance. EVERYONE is asleep on Khabibs hand speed, cardio, mental toughness. It's like we can only see his wrestling because it's SO good. Those entries! Mixed in really well with his hands, like GSP but more dominant once the clinch is on, and maybe without the kicks.
Tony throws those elbows and they cut people. That said it's hard to get that range with a wrestler as dynamic as the Eagle because wrestling counters pressure striking so effectively.
"On the way in..." is what you hear. Maybe. Rubber Guard? 10p BJJ? Maybe. I bet Tony will be looking a lot at just the right squeeze to finish an arm in Guillotine. If Dustin could have gotten his elbow high we might have had "And New" istead of "And Still" Stoked for Furgesson to finally have his well deserved shot. I think it's a dangerous fight for Khabib, but still think Justin Gaethje is the most dangerous fight for Khabib. Intriguing on many levels.
Paul Felder received the greatest gift of Modern UFC judging blunders. I like Felder, but C'mon. When are we gonna see something done about the judging. At least stop having big fights in places where the judges are not experienced with the UFC. These are people's careers. Barbosa won that so clearly, and deserves to have the UFC to fix that crap.
Cerrone was still in that fight.....before he blew his nose. Maybe after Tony get "Smeshed", and if Cerrone somehow miraculously undoes Gaethje, maybe we see a rerun of Cowboy v Tony. I heard Masvidal v Diaz on for sure.
I’m not mad about the Felder decision. That was a close fight. It’s crazy that he got 30-27 but it easily could have gone either way.

Felder won the takedown. He cracked Edson and got taken down but all the damage on the ground was Felder. He opened him up. Obviously the switch kicks to the body were Edson’s bread and butter but I think Felder did more damage. Fight could easily have gone either way. No way anyone deserved 30-27 the judging is no doubt fucked.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
It’s nice that judges are awarding more 10-8 rounds, but I’d like to see the rules changed to allow 9-9(draw) rounds. If neither fighter is dominant in a round, why should one be rewarded with a 10? Maybe that might eliminate some of the judging discrepancies.
Or maybe it makes it worse.
Or better because fighters will need to really win rounds, not just get one takedown.

The issue is two judges watched the fight. One thought one guy won all rounds, the other judge thought the other did. The judges are appointed by the athletic commission, many from boxing. The judges need to understand MMA better so they understand that things like leg kicks matter more than a cut over someone's eye from a jab, ect.
Cerrone submitting Gaethje is such an interesting turn of events for the division. I'm gonna call 4th round. Not sure Cowboy is gonna survive that long. I think Gaethje is the most dangerous guy to content with for anyone in the top 5, Cerrone is in trouble trying to deal with the pressure that Gaethje is gonna bring but I'm pulling for him. Let's go Donald!
I got Cowboy finishing Gaethje in 3rd maybe 4th....but really looking forward to the Tyson Fury fight later this evening
I'm thinking Gaethje by decision. Two guys who are hard to knock out. You could hit Gaethje with a 2X4 and the guy would keep coming forward

In my mind, lots of questions to be answered about Izzy. Too much too soon? Will he wilt under pressure? Can he keep B.K. at distance? Can he land a head kick? Will he go to work with low leg kicks? How good will his take down defense be and if he gets taken down, can he get back up? Knuckles is lookin' swole...that strength should transpose good to the wrestling/grappling if it goes that way.
I hope it's a good long, technical battle but kinda thinkin' someone's gonna finish before the fifth and it might be lopsided either way.

The way I see it; Whittaker played a risk/reward game. Take chances to get inside, get outside quick...left himself open. He led with his head, leaving it exposed to counterstrikes. He didn't show the same game of Gastelum who slipped a lot of punches.
Coulda went either way, imo. Knuckles moved forward and coulda landed but it was Izzy who landed with a tactical strike. Eyes open and on the prize even when backing up, from what I saw.
There was a brief shot of Paulo Costa being restrained at ring side after the KO, that's a fight to look forward to.
Hooker made Raging Al look lost and feeble.

This week has a couple good ones. Waterson over Joanna? I think so. She's been mixing the game really well and Joanna is nasty but really just straight forward Thai KB. Kron V Cub...Hoping Cub can keep the gate closed on Kron. Love him as a fighter, he deserves another win he has lost a lot lately, but all to good guys. Kron will have his day.

Damn, that was a great fight to watch. Great to see all the variety of skills, strategy and reactions by both fighters. Much respect to Maia for the win; 41 years old and almost tied with Cowboy for most wins in the UFC. As for Askren...that protruding chin seems to be a liability; big target for masvidal's flying knee, and a advantageously angled slope that helped Maia really positively apply that choke.
