Friend of mine. Still getting the deets. Props to TCISAR for the response and evac.

A++; This is the Key.
If you get an opportunity, please fill us in. Vibes to your friend. Going thru the strainer sucks.
Good sunny leftovers/chop today. We started late and got to ride Dreamcatcher once before it broke around noon. Still lots of barely skied soft snow up there.
Hope everyone heals.
There were a lot of (potential) bad choices to be made Friday (and today) — and especially around Stateline. Low elevation snowpack has been particularly hollow & reactive IME.
I was surprised by the # of folks preparing to head out from that lot at nearly 4pm. Seemed interesting given temps, winds, and conditions. I think many folks think that terrain is tame.
Cold temps, sun, incredibly reactive snowpack. Very few skiers. Plenty of untracked, safe (relative term) skiing. Couple of line choices made that I personally would not have felt comfortable with, but they got away with it so what do I know? 🤷♂️

Wow the cold temps really stiffened up yesterdays blower in a hurry, still good skiing and a few untapped moderate angle stashes left here and there. Cool to get out and see all the avi activity, big and lots of it. Sidecountry crew is wisely ratcheting things way back (other than one close call yesterday and today ) keep your wits about you boys and gals this ones a marathon not a sprint. Not your usual wait a day and have at it stuff for sure.
Stiffening up the pack fast will be good methinks. Hopefully some bonding and strengthening.
Inbounds has been beaten into submission. Now if we can keep the top from sliding off.
in a tough spot...

^danggggg that focus is razor sharp UAN
Pretty decent day at Targhee today. There’s definitely some nice soft chop to be found. Hopefully DC gets sorted for tomorrow. Otherwise it’ll be tough for me to justify a ticket (albeit half price).
WRG are you around tomorrow? Anyone else? It would be good to roll some laps with some of y’all.
Also, WTF is with the jerry circus on Blackfoot? Over the past few years the amount of absolutely out of control people bombing the groomer under the lift has gotten to the point where you basically see one ever ride up the lift. I doubt most of em know what it feels like to eat shit at 50mph.

Was the driver wearing sandal's like they usually are ?
On another note (general rant) if you happen to trigger a sizeable slide close to the resort aka side-country please let patrol know there is no one caught so the next people coming thru do not feel compelled to climb up and search the entire debris field to make sure no one is in it.
To be clear, you are asking people who poached terrain/ducked a rope to contact patrol? Hah :)
Not likely to happen with the 2 who triggered that one! :) That said, word travels fast.... even I knew about it and wasn't even there. :)
Someone would have to put a sign at the top to say "anyone caught in this slide has already been dug out."
Some of those closed inbounds areas (that have not been open all year) are the equivalent of a backcountry snowpack... on a high hazard day. Kind of tells you where peoples' heads are (or not).
Hah!
I think I saw him shortly after he first got stuck — he wasn't outta the cab. :)
Thanks. You should see 'em on a big screen. Sometimes the crispness (or just the general impact) of the image is lost when it gets downsized for posting (especially with social media). The photos that have bigger impact (for me) tend to be the ones where the skier is small in the scene. Those generally don't generate as much impact on mobile phones & social media as those where the skier is large/not much background — which shows more detail.
Glad you enjoy them... or at least this one!
Dug this one out of the archives for you from 2018. And yes, he did bump a few cars when he got pulled over at the top. Attachment 482910

I'll be up there with a couple buddies tomorrow again. Camo FRS and rainbow colored Heritage Labs FR110 or Green/Gold FR113s. I'll shoot you a PM. I worked at a warehouse when I first moved to MT and we had truckers come in to make deliveries during snow storms and below zero temps. No jackets, shorts, sandals, didn't even know what tire chains were etc. Insane.

No skiers caught to my knowledge.... easily could have taken out some skinners.
Not any slopes I would have considered today. Oy.

Yep today was sweet again. Untracked Mary's lap was the cherry on top for sure.

Skied stateline area today and I can tell you that the pack was fucking vocal for sure, lots of collapsing and crazy sensitive. At one point a tree shedding snow set the pack to collapse. Ended up just poking around on very mellow terrain. Be careful out there, it’s pretty sketchy

Nice shot of the crust explosion. Beauty day, eh?

Finally skied the bowl again today after about a 3 week hiatus. Damn, that was good; windblown chalk piles of stiff talc. Easy carving.
Off piste is really nice and predictable. Wally's world was squeaky and slow for a nice northish facing slope.
Good to catch up with Wstdeep today. Been 3 off seasons.
Back in the rotation tomorrow as parking poaching is done for a month now?
Babybear - I gots sumpin for yas.
Thanks for that update. We skied Alta Dena today, a surprisingly solid feeling snowpack up there. No slides in the W. facing Eddington chutes, one good one off the top of Alta Dena into Eddington. Still a little thin and faceted on the approach, which we also came back down as there was no way we were going out Eddington. Great snow.
