I hope you're right but this is a PE firm we're talking about. Alterra will capitalize on any opportunity to make money, customer experience be dammed. Al seems to have a lot of autonomy under current ownership, highly unlikely under Alterra.

Relax, all ye eaters of dicks by the bagful.
This just means you will get new lifts, while Crustal skiers continue to get jack squat.

A-Basin:
Sold by a bag of dicks
Bought by a bag of dicks
Zikes! Just heard this on NPR. Unlimited days with IKON Base next year!? Eh, Bae? Oh you betcha!!! Another one bites the dust if they’re smart they’ll try the same low crowd model but I got no hopes. I only used 3/5 days last Base I had but I liked the concept of trying to limit numbers.

Unlimited on Ikon base would absolutely overwhelm the place. They better be smarter than that. Remember how Al mentioned how tense and worn out the ABasin employees were during the super crowded days of Vail 4-5 years ago?
Please accept my condolences
Caint wait to see what a gaggle of equity investors plan to do in order to secure a higher ROI (to justify the “risk”) than issuing debt, in a mature industry, late in its product life cycle.
Damn thats a tough bag of dicks to swallow. Y’all have my sympathies. For the four years I lived in Breck, I skied the Basin more than all the others combined. For several years after I left I kept buying spring passes and traveled up there to sleep in the back of my truck in the parking lot and ski for weeks. The good old days. Hopefully it doesn’t go unlimited. Weekends are fucked everywhere now anyway. I won’t even try anymore.
True story, unfortunately.
Hearing rumors they will be building a five story parking garage at the beach.
Summit County has also received a planning & zoning submission for a new hotel in the overfill lot.
Ikon Platinum Pass next year
That sure doesn't sound good, hopefully it isn't as bad as it seems.
I will say that Vail hasn't changed Crested Butte that much. It really hasn't been that big of a deal. We're also 4 hours from Denver and Vail doesn't know what the hell to do here since we don't fit the mold of their other properties, and that has been a blessing. They pretty much leave us alone, for better or worse. Hopefully Alterra somehow leaves A-Basin alone as well
Well, I don't work there, but most people got a pay raise when Vail took over. Patrol and lift mechanics are unionized, so that probably helps in those departments. I know plenty of people that are annoyed that HR is in Broomfield so they can't even talk to a real person like they could before.
It kind of felt like things were falling apart with the Muellers. And the Walton/Calloways before them were practically broke, mostly due to their theme park in Atlanta- there were a couple of years when they stopped trying to open Banana and 3rd bowl to save $.
I'd love a bazillionaire owner that ran it out of love not money, but that isn't likely. Sure I occasionally have to wait 5 or 6 minutes in the liftline on Saturdays, but that was happening with the growth of Denver and the Rocky Mountain Superpass anyway. Most of the time the place is empty.
Pali will be a 6 seat high speed quad. BMX will be an 8 seat. There will be a Poma from the top of Lenawee to Upper East Wall. Hiking prohibited.
Dog's will be banned from uphill access.
Some grading will be done on the private mine patent inholdings to make the terrain more family friendly and offer more greens.
The beach will be replaced with a series of tropical themed bars and upscale storefronts. The early riser lot will be a new base village with 5 star condotels! with commercial main levels.
Climax mine has been contracted to excavate a 10 story deep parking garage for all the other parking. After that they will bore a tunnel through the divide for CDOT to allow easier road access.
Bags of dicks will be provided gratis, but they must be stroked lovingly before consumption.
.
the first time Mr. and Mrs. Cherrycreek and their 2.3 children are force-fed a bag of dicks by some core sisters or broheims at 11k, they will take the kids and go right the fuck back to skiing Keystone ....
.
ya'll were already aware of a very real plan to make a gondola from the base area to the bottom of len with a lodge and chairlift there for a beginner area, right? this will be coupled with more parking somewhere near the cdot building. thinking this will happen sooner now.
lol
This whole things is just a big meh MOTS kinda situation. It was good for a few years. Now it is gonna suck again. I'll never forgive them for what they did to the steep gullies/beavers anyway. They actually used that to justify being able to get off the epic pass now here they are, back with another mega pass. Try my best to only buy a pass and spend as little as possible in their lodges. Rather drink a beer on my tailgate. Hopefully they don't outlaw that too.
old Al retires this summer replaced by someone with a dick in their butt
These is no doubt in my mind that this will happen, and it won't be Alterra. It'll be people, because some people are fucking garbage and will let their dogs run amuck and shit anywhere and not do anything about it. Monarch just banned dogs from uphill access, and it's for sure the shitty dog owners that did it.
Monarch has long had a no dog at the base area except the parking lot. I got yelled at for having my on leash dog walking around. Sigh. My home ski area lets dogs everywhere off leash as long as they behave, as it should be.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if they gave him a nice bonus to stay on for a year. Money well spent for the PR department
I hadn't skied CB till last spring since the ownership change and I agree. Feels the same as it did as a struggling Indy. People are still welcoming. The patrol was bombing the shit out of things and opening stuff up as fast as they could. I was really down about buying an epic local pass last spring since we are kind of stuck going to CB for the time being for family reasons, but it was just me getting sad about shit for no reason.
For dirtbag ski tourists like me, the worst thing about the Basin sale is they will almost certainly ditch Mountain Collective. This sale was inevitable with Abasin representing as an insurance policy of guaranteed skiing every year with low overhead.
I'm sure they already have people trying to figure out how to make sure there is just enough blingy overhead to justify $500 day tickets in 3 years.
