Its absolutely not something just 'gun people' have done. If anything, people who support gun ownership actually believe in that right having value, while people like Newsome just believe in more government control, less rights for people, and don't actually care about guns.

The universe will never be a safe place. Its a nice goal to make it more safe but its absolulty delusional to expect it to be safe to the point you don't have to be mindful of danger.

Regardless its an incredibly rare phenomenon. The vast majority of things classified as mass shootings are gang or drug related, not innocent school children.

Fentanyl is currently the number one killer of under 50 year olds, shall we talk about that? if you combine the stabbings, shootings, and OD deaths from the drug and gang epidemic as a single cause, which is really not a stretch, the drug and gang problem is by far the largest killer of virtually all age groups besides very young children and the elderly.

"Incredibly rare" is how I would describe school shootings in pretty much every other country on earth. I don't think "hiring some security guards" aka "armed private security or dedicated police for every public and private school in the country" is the best solution, but if it were I wouldn't have any opposition; emotional, financial, or otherwise.

And your sarcasm is kinda odd considering this has been my message for a long time in this thread. Even with huge uptick in new gun sales, as well as huge growth in the number of people that own guns, including the fastest growing segments being whole new demographics, specifically minorities and women, which have typically been very low percentage owners of firearms, violence goes down in accordance with unemployment and targeted policing of the very small segment of society that are professional criminals and responsible for the vast majority of gun crime and violent crime in general. Crazy how that works.

Seems almost like if one wanted to actually solve or improve these problems, there are more productive and less divisive ways to focus ones energy than against law abiding gun owners. But then there's the need to maintain the addiction to outrage dopamine.

Regardless, can't we all just breathe a sigh of relief and gratitude?

The upticks are in the things that guns do best... and that is kill people.. Definitely the result of more guns. The downticks in non murder crimes are verily likely more related to more people having more honest money . more jobs and better paying jobs.

So just ignore the last decade where the gun death rate increased YOY and only judge the most recent 5 months where (as stated in the article you linked) the incomplete and preliminary data is showing a 5-10% decrease in murder rate.

There was a cop there who missed (or chickened out) of an opportunity to confront the shooter before he got to the building.

Most of our schools have at least one. But most of our high school kids have their own/stolen guns so not sure they're needed.

Murder rate went curing COVID. Keeping people, armed people, locked up together 24/7 for 2 years tends to do that.. It went down when folks could again walk away when angry..
