Corn today below 10k on low angle south faces. Above that still breakable crust. Top of Hogum had creamy snow on north aspect. I guess it doesn't matter with this next storm coming in though.

Anyone been in/around Wolvie, lately, and willing to share any obs on conditions? Thanks in advance.
Skied some surprisingly good corn on the Park City side of things today. E-NE aspects skied well at 2 ish at apx. 8k today. Still good coverage almost all the way down to town lift.

A LOST ART THESE DAYS. folks are always asking why i turn so much. if they have to ask...........i give up.
even on the ice coast, my home, i spend most of my time utilizing very little space in full on wiggle mode. like here:
april 18th 2010 burt ravine mt washington, 15 inches of new, a steady 37 degree pitch for 1300 vert. 200 turns? at least.

conditions at alta and snowbird 5/12 and 5/13. new snow has a definite crust below about 9500'. today at the bird - coming off baldy shoulder above wildcat - there were major rollers. some were about 5'-6' below the cliffs. started a light snow at about 2:30 at about 10,700. at the bypass road a little later it was sleet, almost rain. pics and details from yesterdays trip are on the oh ten bird stoke thread.

a few instabilities, nothing we couldn't manage. it was DEEP!
FULL ADVENTURE DOCUMENTED TOMORROW, IM BEAT!
Apology in advance for thread drift.
A person should ski the mountain the way the snow says it should be skied.

Flexibility is key and anal retentiveness at all times eliminates both the flexibility and fun of opening up the turn when indicated.
My arm is inna sling for several more weeks because of a close encounter of the third kind with the evil doer. Rehab is going good.
Doubtful I getta enjoy the spring melt off but, my reading of the current weather guess indicates good skiing through the weekend.
Would suggest taking advantage before temps rise and summer begins.
Good for you tyfalk, a timely descent.
anal retentiveness at all times can better keep ones arms in tact tho, and fun can still be had. i do agree, flexibility is key. and to each thier own.
nice work with the one arm, btw.
yes, pardon the drift, have trouble letting nice artwork go by quietly unnoticed.

Excellent. Possibly sig worthy right there? Love the noodle turn pics though. Makes me wanna noodle.Quote:

Seemed like the thing to do at the time.....
DUDE BRAH~! WHY SO MANY TURNS BRAH? THIS iS HOW THE BROS N I WOULD HAVE SKIED THAT LINE!

Personally the pink lines have got way better style.
But seriously, keep on farmin' those turns. Leaves others more room to play with.
mixed bag - fog, flat light, snow, sleet, sun. cloud cover decreased rollers compared to yesterday. i skied only northish faces. definite crust seems to develop at about 10,000'.
Went after the Northwest Couloir on the Pfeifferhorn. Figured that the big warmup coming meant the time was ripe and the window was short to get it done.

Sunny skies most of the day, but big clouds threatened us. Tons of snow still up there right now thanks to the May storms.
http://www.utahoutside.com/wp-conten...erhorn-023.jpg
Bootpack was soft, almost post-holey. A previous party made it up first and put in the bootpack that morning so it was easier, but the snow warmed up fast.

Atop the peak. A perfect day to ski.

Justin Lozier at the top of the Northwest Couloir. The snow was soft and turnable but deteriorating fast.

Me at the rappel. The cliff wasn't too big thanks to the aforementioned huge dumps this spring as we were even able to do it with skis on as there was a thin line of ice on skier's right.
http://www.utahoutside.com/wp-conten...erhorn-053.jpg
Looking back up at the couloir. You can barely see a later group coming down the rappel.

In the afternoon, there was tons of wet slab avalanche activity so we got the hell out of there. East faces of Hogum Fork were shedding massive slides and the Tanner slidepaths set down huge avalanches that even sent up plumes of powder clouds. Scary stuff. Overall an awesome day. Can't believe it's mid-May out there!
Corn harvest in full effect this morning. East faces were ripe at about 9 at 10500. South faces ripe at 10, same elevation. West face was still firm and supportable at 11, 10500.
Nice Timp shots and NW couloir shots. Jealous.
I had some plans for this weekend, but had to deal with house shit. This week and next weekend will hopefully make up for it.
Skied Upper Pole Couloir on west facing Cascade Mountain. The day's warming surprised us with the snow surface becoming saturated about noon. We pressed on until 2pm and then skied it. One-third of the way down the couloir, a moderate wet sluff drained into the right fork of the couloir (about 200 feet from us). It was a bit tense. Fortunately we all got down okay and it was a blast overall. Our timeframe for climbing/skiing was planned for typical melt-freeze hard pack in the spring. Instead, the snow was still very loose and unconsolidated from the mid-week snows. Dumb idea on our part. We should have been out of there long before. Something to keep in mind.

great shot of that area zzz
Anyone want to go touring wednesday? Everyone I know is gone for the year and I'll be rolling solo if I can't find anyone, not sure where.
Great shots marauders. Is the road open to the gravel pit?
^^^He was joking, BRAH.
Messin' with da photo is no laughing matter unless it's funny.
N and NE aspects in Cardiff skied well all morning with the few new inches of light density that started to get manky by mid morning. South aspect on the way out was good corn around noon.

I've gotta give Marauders credit for putting today's line on my radar.
It was fun. It seemed like the mountain was bowling down the couloir now and then, but we used our mad skills to dodge the rockfall. Temps over the last week plus the few inches of new stuff helped smooth out old avy debris and runnels. Had do do some navigating around rocks, but for the most part we skied creamy consolidated up high, corn in the middle, and creamed corn down low around 11:30 - noonish.

Had a great climb/ski on the SLC Twins yesterday. Lots of big glide releases in broads fork, some 10'+ crowns. A skiff of new snow made things interesting.

^SE ridge of East Twin. South side was hard as rock making for good, confident climbing.

^ This was interesting. A 2.5' deep, 75' wide slab that pulled out on the north face of east twin. It was very sensitive and popped out with alot of energy. Lots of wind loading on the high ridges yesterday.

we rode the east face. The skiing was, well, well it was nice to be skiing lets put it that way! :yourock:
Found a little pocket to pull out today on the Emmas. Watch that new snow a bit.
Brett Kobernik
The new snow stayed relatively dry on N through NW aspects around 9k in park city this afternoon.

NO PICS - Just Obs.
Went up 5/25 to see if there might be a line amongst the Altaqaeda camp and was more than surprised to see that the WHOLE DAMN MOUNTAIN WAS TRACKED OUT! Mysterious since I have put some nice lines down Little Chute, Perlas Ridge, The Triangle, The Ridge, and upper Keyhole and other shots into Snowbird in the past ten days.
SO, I took an about face and looked up at Flagstaff that only boasted one skinner and tonz of opps for fresh lines since Mondays storm. It did not disapoint. With little time I made my own ascent up to the ridge seperating Dayz and LCC and descended SW-SE from the summit just do East from Flagstaff. I am not usually in to South Face shots from here but it was dreamy and fast.
Toledo boasted a nice big slab release (top 10-24", and about 50-75' wide) on true South and a Superior of course was looking like pinball alley.
Get some!!! Recommended that people hit up Cardiff and Dayz N-Facing shots because the wind and protection looked like it was preserved well.
Found: Splitter skins. Alta area. pm me and identify.
