^^^Yeah, I didn't think either post made much sense in the context of this thread either.
And...
I would never drop anywhere near 9 bills for Volkl or/and especially Blizzard, even though I like what they got goin on.

I am so glad that Splat has taken this opportunity to make some skis again.
When he talked about not being able to personally craft them anymore, you could feel the hurt in his voice.
If I hadn’t just gotten my Q’s, I would be in line.
Congratulations Splat and Keith.
Brainstorming ideas for veneer printing... Leaning towards the 2nd option, as I like showing off the veneer (tan areas would be wood), and printing the background could lead to some bleeding issues with such a thin design.
Edit: Talked with Keith, as I suspected printing a solid color for the background tends to cause issues, so the veneer option on these skis will be to choose a color (probably red, blue, green, black, or purple) to print to fine-lined pattern onto a clear (veneer showing) background.
There's a good chance people will be able to choose the color for the fine-lined design on the nylon topsheets as well. Waiting to hear if the background will be able to be changed from black as well or not. If I was doing Nylon on my skis I'd probably do black or red background with tan for the design.
Going to result in some sick, one of a kind skis.
Here are some mockups I did using lunapic.com, pretty easy to replace colors on there to get a good idea if anyone wants to play around with it. The actual skis would have much finer detail/graphic quality than what I'm showing here btw.

^ Keith mentioned that the lighter color veneers will make the graphic “pop” better. Which is crazy since the blue in black really stands out.
Can't print light colors (i.e. white, light blue) on even moderately dark veneers and expect it to show up. Only way to get those colors in a graphic to show is have the lightest veneer possible, and expect the color to come through as the veneer's natural color (no ink) or a tinted tan (i.e. a blueish tan from the light blue ink).
I'm pretty undecided, I think all 4 of the color schemes above would look amazing on birds eye maple, or perhaps white birch or white oak.
Edit: see my post above for an update from Keith
those all look really good... the gold on red is sick.
Awesome project Splat/Keith. If this evolves into a 186 run at some point I’d be in. Good on y’all
Fuck. The gold on red....

All good. Beautiful.
Red and gold for the win.
Another one for red & gold, some royal purple would look great too.
