Been skiing Atomic Backland 107s with SHIFT last little while

The Backland is so light but destroys pow. The crazy looking super thin HRZN tip looks like it'll flap around and/or fall off but it really works. Floats fine in pow but still has heft so you can drive it through mank with a bit of pressure. The SHIFT binding keeps delivering without issues. More i use it the less faffing around you do for transitions.

12 days so far on Salomon and Atomic versions.

Got to check out a pair in person this weekend.
I was impressed. Toe and heel pieces seemed as solid as any alpine binding and the shift to and from touring mode has a reassuringly solid 'thunk' to it.
Brakes and heel lifter seemed a little lighter duty perhaps to save a bit of weight where possible but the important bits looked really good.
The Salomon athlete who I trust was pretty pumped on them too.

Pictures telling a thousand words the SHIFT brakes run wide.

100m brakes on a 99m ski (2018-9) Salomon QST99.

Left is tour mode. Right is ski mode. Tons of clearance

If you get the brakes too wide you can hit them when skinning in pow which forces the brakes from stowed away tour mode to walk mode. So get the brakes to fit your ski (duh)

I'm considering the 4frnt Raven, line sick day tourist and sick day 104 as 75% out, 25% inbound to pair with shift. Dont think I want to go lighter than 1700g. Blister loves all 3 skiis, they won best of in touring:

Weights and lengths measured

Raven: 183cm, 104mm, 1750g, full rocker
Tourist: 183cm, 102mm, 1750g, camber
Sick day: 185cm, 104mm, 1900g, camber

Anyone figured out if the Shift hole pattern will be similar to other Salomon binders like the Warden? Would like to upgrade possibly next season without swiss cheezin the new skies. ;)

They will not be the same, but I don't know if they can share any holes yet. There was a preliminary template put a few pages back that you could work that out from. I'm too lazy...

Did we come to the conclusion that pulling kingpins and mounting shifts would be fine as far as the toe piece is concerned?

the first bend in brake is how close to the deck? i only ask because from that perspective and your advice of that being a 100mm brake on a similar width ski looks like it would fit a 110 or more?

It might. They're wide. Like I said i dont recommend overbending but feel free to try. You can always shave the plastic from the inner arms

Think a 100mm brake could fit a 108mm ski? Or is that pushing it a bit much?

We're up to 21 pre orders for the Tahoe Mountain Sports deal, and I suspect brake size indecision is playing a factor in some people not pulling the trigger yet.

You guys (not you personally but everyone in this thread) keep asking the same question and I'll keep giving the same answer. I'm fairly confident it will work for 105mm. Beyond that you're on your own. Like someone else said upthread you're getting a group buy discount. Any more assurances needed and best to wait till they're in store and you can verify on whatever ski you want to put them on. If you don't want to pull the trigger because of brake size then that's fine.

Yes, I went back and found it after failing on my first attempt. Sorry for the repetition.

Anyway, I'm already in on the pre-order... and I figure if I want to change the brake size there's still plenty of time for that later on.

I may have missed it -- but has there been any discussion on the swappability of brakes?

I could see these being killer for a travel setup, with a couple of pairs of skis and inserts.

does anyone have the length of adjustment for the shift , want to use with two pairs of boots that differ by 9mm , my radical 2 have 15mm so hoping these will have that much ??
