A little over two weeks later ... still horribly and hopelessly (?) hot, but some nice updates over what I previously wrote for the upcoming 2015-16 season:
ESAW has been majorly upgraded for this season!

Also upgraded is our rando race at Magic, now part of the U.S. Ski Mountaineering Association National Series, with some Westerners and also I hope those fast Quebec racers joining us for both March 12 & 13:

Saturday will be a traditional-style race, and Sunday will be the NE debut of three additional race formats (uphill-only "Vertical" race followed by a crit-style 60-min race and concluding with an elimination-style sprint race).

Riding around in the backyard in the evening this week after it cools a bit, hydrate or die, and saw some bear tracks [a bit late so I rode over them], hoping the bear keeps out of my blackberries in the yard.

No one else has been out since Saturday so they missed this tasty oyster score. great weather for fungi this week, riding with a bigger pack to pick more at a time.

The ribs ^^ were yummy as was this chicken I smoked while working in the shop, it went well with the garlic aioli and fresh mushrooms.

While I was spinning the wheel Saturday Epod [lift op super. at the bush] showed me a video he took of the parasailer who decked a tree last weekend. Had him forward it to Surface so we could all watch what not to do.

Yes, quite the disconnect to be spending hours in front of the computer planning skimo/rando races, avy courses, and ESAW as the home office AC cycles on while glances at the radar map show t-storms drifting by.Quote:

The main focus is on NSP instructors for these topics, but our definition of a candidate instructor is pretty much any patroller who's interested in this kind of stuff -- some of the presentation are more administrative, although we also have lots of hands-on skills refresher stations for avy beacon searching, ropework rescue, etc.
Attendance is free (ditto for nearby camping), plus we even feed you Saturday breakfast

Eating my shredded wheat on a rainy summer morning while reading in Powder about how Greg Petrics "embodies the salty crew of locals that look beyond" Stowe's various luxuries including "gondola and eight high-speed quads" (which I admit prompted me to check out the website in case I had missed some massive upgrade last year).
Well I think GP uses the gondola, then his crew of 4 uses their 8 quads to go beyond.
Powder magazine, favorite songbirds replaced by the 24/7 dissonance of the crickets, local sweet corn feasting and ferns dying off on the side of the trails. All signs that winter is nigh. Someone will likely ski natural snow on the East Coast in the next 8 or so weeks, Will it be you? Get after it!
Petrics was the best part of the whole issue so far, I know that guy on TGR!

We hammered up, down and around the mid south side. So much fun riding through open forest as opposed to the tree tunnel around here. Had to tell myself to stop gazing at rock walls and pay attention several times. Rode a trail [HOF] that hasn't changed hardly at all in almost 20 years.

i think i was the only one there, with 26" wheels!
the downhills on this course were made for small wheels
i did suffer going up, however, and the last 1.5 miles is going up, lactic acid fire, ouch.

Yeah Buttah! Nice work. Wife and I are signing up for the VT50 next year- she's doing the 50miler, I'm gonna gun for the 50k. Time to embrace the climb.
The VT50 is a great race. Bummed I can't ride it this year. I'm coming back East likely for a longer period of time. Accepted a job in Boston and expecting baby Rontele sometime in Feb.

Got the fam away for a week outside of Sugarloaf on Flagstaff Lake. That was awesome! I can't believe that people don't go there in the summer. The place is a ghost town and the trails are empty. Not to mention The Rack is a great spot for beers in warmer weather. So good.
