Im not sure what you mean but you won't have an issue getting to Kirkwood. This isn't one of those, close the highway for days, kind of storms. Kirkwood is good about opening terrain. Kirkwood is a killer place to be shacked up during a storm cycle. It sure as hell won't be busy.

The patroller who dropped his pole loading Granite a few years ago was pretty embarrassed when I handed it to him at the top. He was a National though so maybe it doesn't count for beers.
Dentist patrollers!! Good on those guys for volunteering their time. As long as they dont act like douche canoes.
The pro patrollers at OV are badass mo-fos. It's a serious place to patrol. Hats off to them.
My kid thought he could ski until one of the senior patrollers took him down a line between 75 and RG. He did get to participate in patrol games one year--in the "bomb" throwing contest. I guess his arm impressed them more than his skiing.
After watching sheets of driving rain out the window, waxing skis and drinking another pot of coffee, went for some laps on Disney late yesterday. Other than it was raining hard and then harder, it skied better than expected with soft turns and top of the toe ski pen where it was untracked. There were probably 5 or 10 other enthusiasts out there. In the keeping it positive category, booting up I did see a mom kit out her 4 year old in a customize garbage bag rain shield. The kid then led the charge into the malestrom to shred the gnar with neither complaint nor delay.
Multiple ambulances at AM this morning.
Groomers were firmer than expected.
Kirkwood had a partial opening then closed all lifts today.
Had work in Tahoe Donner so took the skis for a walk in sunrise bowl. Was hoping for still rain soft but it was almost entirely supportable refreeze. Smooth... But the almost was the hard part. Good day for rax.

Hah! In my 50 years here I've never seen R3, on 80 or anywhere else except Northwoods.
I’ve seen R3 in both Yosemite (120 to west entrance) and SEKI NP (south from Wolverton). In SEKI we blew it off and drove the Subie without chains without problems; in Yose they were hardasses and so we went out 140.
I have seen it once on Brockway 25 years ago. I was trying to go from Northstar to Steamers for pizza. CalTrans told me to go home.
I assume all the talk of R3 means that it is still raining in Tahoe. No pics of storm skiing or conditions?

Twas great at the Ghettos for about 90 minutes. Sherwood and TLC were the only lifts opened. Warming temperatures (rain) and limited terrain lead to a limited day. Cool pinwheels and rollerball kind of day...
It has been snowing for a couple of hours at 7k. Accumulation is still only 2-3 inches. I heard SB was great today. Country Club kind of day.
Snow level seems to be dropping from north to south with the change at about tahoe city right now

The same line three of the last 4 days keeping above the rain. 1 day at alpine above subway that was good enough to hike up 3 times (inbounds sucked)

What a delightful morning at AM.
Alpine Meadows good today. Hard to go wrong anywhere off of Summit. Afternoon wind buff situation was the best of the season. It was far better than expected given the heavy rains in Truckee last night.

Yeah, the drive was as expected, the skiing was not, and the lack of people was surprising. Sunspot was particularly nice--deepest snow I found, no wind slab, and few people skiing it. Mine were the second pair of tracks in that whole area.</p>

I got a kick out of the snowboarder who had taken off her board on the runout and was gently encouraging a little mouse off the groomer into the trees. </p>

seems like they forgot to close the door behind them, thats unusual. Can confirm G2A and old goat's assessment of the Shralpine Meadows. Cold creamy buff to be had. Even the rain crusty was not frozen so hard, more like a Crem Brulé.</p>

Wow today totally over delivered. I got a late start on purpose, to let them get things open. Boots on 10:30. Snow was very confidence inspiring. Not really deep out there but you could rip anything at any speed you like, very flat everywhere it seemed.Quote:

I was at the top of Sibo at 2:45 with my crew when a patroller rolled up and told me Granite was opening at 3. We got two amazing untouched laps before close at 3:30. Today was amazingly good. That was great untouched Sentinel Bowl lines all day. Wonder if they let people up 6 after it shut for wind around 230? Doubt it.
Hopefully tomorrow everything wraps up early and they can get the hoards over to 4 before things get too beat up off 6/10. Yesterday after 2/3/4 opened I just kept lapping 10 through Eagle bowl since no one wanted to ski it after their first run to get the backside.

Another character building day. The top of KT skied amazingly well. Slurpee pow. West Face was buffed perfectly smooth and you could crank it to 10. As the day went on the snow level went from KT base to the top. Eventually Mountain Run was a sticky mess.
Hoping for a decent day tomorrow. It is still raining at 7k right now.
I dunno about all that. The dog almost ate a tree but other than that it was pretty damn nice

It was a bit more work to do Pali laps back then, as I pointed out, chair 7 was slow. More often than not you'd ski to the shuttle waiting for you and drive over to 6.
Around 3pm people started to return from the backside. Some joined us but most went home. I had fresh tracks too to bottom on my last run of the day.
Love it when something hangs them up in Sentinel and the crowd heads to the backside. Only have three days like that but none panned out as well as this one.
