Finally settled on the new Nocta and holy f. These things rip. Mounted with ATK FR15s. The last 2 days at the ghee saw a solid 20-24”. Wish I had these last winter for the ~2 weeks of JaPowhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...bfab905094.jpg
I am 5’11 180. I skied the 183 first then went to the 188. I am a decent skier and I wouldn’t ever think of going to the 193 unless I was only skiing big open faces where I could just freight train everything. I have a 196 bodacious and both my noctas are 190s. My GS ski is a 193. So I definitely don’t mind length. I would think unless you are skiing open faces and absolutely ripping all the time that the 188 will be just as good if not better. Maneuverability is important for me skiing trees and bumps. My Corvus is my DD. I do wish sometimes I still had a 183 in my quiver as well.
I’m 6’ 5” 245-50# and I don’t find the 193 Corvus unwieldy. I’m kind of a beater too. I thought the 188 was incredibly easy.

Bummed to see the Corvus as we know it is gone next year. The new Corvus looks fun, but different. And no Nocta.
Yeah. Link or spill.
If they dumb it down to make it more accessible for more people that will be the straw that breaks the camels back. And if they are discontinuing the nocta. Maybe they will go back to a nocta that’s full reverse. Also the number of noctas they sell ciuld be driving that decision. It’s not a ski that people have to replace very often. I know I won’t have to buy another for a long time. The orb was removed due to the lack of sales and that ski is an expert ripper. They didn’t have enough people buying it. The serpo and Vertis talk to a larger majority. Oh well. They fuck up the Corvus and I guess it’s katana or Cochise time.
Yeah, would like details on new Corvus. Trying to find out if I need to hoard current model soon. The truth is, it hasn’t been that popular in the states. Not many shops stock it, mostly just the Astris. I’ve talked to shop buyers and employees of BC stocked shops and they never really seem to click with it, which is largely why I delayed buying a pair so long and only ended up buying used to try. Now it’s one of my favorite skis. Not many shops stock the Anima either, yet it’s my all time favorite for the size. I think it largely comes down to buyers not being that good of skiers when they think they are awesome, not just based on this but from watching some shop employees ski and then hear their bravado. Their are some shop rats who come from racing or other competitive backgrounds, but not as many as there used to be.
I hear the Cochise’s time is limited
^^No shit. I winder if they will bring back the camber?
How does the new Nocta compare to the previous ones? Also, the Corvus doesn't seem to be a ski that needs dumbing down. It's actually a very accessible ski I think people are standoffish due to the nature of the cambered version being a bit of a handful if you are not ready for it.
Pure speculation here (ie no inside knowledge) but I would guess Corvus getting Justis treatment: some camber, H shaped metal in a wider package.
Lame. I could see bumping up the waist and a little larger radius but the layup, flat/reverse camber and lack of splay are pretty perfect

I think when Marshal drops the R105 shape, it’ll be reincarnation of the Corvus that we all know and love. Waiting patiently…
Umm… I am pretty sure the current Corvus actually has a 25m sidecut radius, even if it is marketed as a 21m radius ski. Soothski measures the sidecut radius to be about 25m in every length that they measured.
That tail in the photo doesn’t look all that far off from a FB Corvus. At least, with a turned up tail. The notch for a skin clip also has me thinking FB. Attachment 483133
Yeah getting rid of the nocta makes no sense. The new v3 is just one year out.
I guess we’re waiting for the evo gear preview for details
Anyone grab those limited edition Draco’s?? Seems there are only a couple of pairs of 189 left

That sounds about right. There’s really not much taper.

Evo:
On the tailwinds of a big freeride year, Black Crows is going back to their roots and revamping the ski that made them: the Corvus.
Updates to the Corvus will bring it into the modern era of freeride skiing. Recent iterations have seen the Corvus rock up with reverse camber or flat camber, but in its place is an all new shape: classic camber, straight lines, two progressive rockers, and a sheet of titanal. The new model adds a few millimeters of width (starting at 110mm), a slight pintail shape which makes it easier to pivot and break out of turns, and comes in an expanded size range of 169 - 191cm. Designed for big mountains and ambitious pursuits, this french freerider is designed to ski fast and hard wherever you find yourself. Kaw!
On the front side, the all new Octo and Octo Birdie add to Black Crows’ growing carving lineup. The Octo draws heavy parallels to the Mirus Cor with the same core construction and a slightly slimmer 84mm waist width for front-side ripping, but no titanal layer (there is an aluminum tail insert). This makes the Octo a great option for people who love to carve but often feel overwhelmed by skis incorporating metal. It’s 200 grams lighter than the Mirus Cor, and features light tip rocker with classic camber underfoot for balance and stability. The Octo and Octo Birdie are available in sizes 167 - 185cm and 155 - 173cm respectively. The construction appears the same between the gendered lines, with a graphic and size range change to meet consumer demand.
Bold and colorful, Black Crows continue to literally stand out in the crowd. You can always tell when people are riding them, and the company has no plans to change the bold geometric designs and sidewall slander that lure people to these super fun skis.
- Revamped Corvus Skis
- New Octo and Octo Birdie Skis
As mentioned above, Heritage Labs Skis should have most Corvus lovers covered if the new one is a dud
R110 and R105 most likely gonna eat the new Corvus’s lunch for us ski nerds
Yeah the r105 is the likely heir to the current Corvus for me. Everyday soft snow up to a foot of new

That's a bad ass looking ski. I like the numbers.
No Nocta shown in the line up. But it's only one picture. Corvus/Atris/Anima rocker looks crazy but probably the camera position.

I know the current Corvus has a lot of fans, but I'm still curious about the new version. Anybody seen a profile shot of it?
Also, maybe it's just whishful thinking, but doesn't the Justis tip taper appear to start a bit further down from the tip than on the current version??
Edit to add: Are width dimensions published somewhere for comparison to current?
I got a look at the 24/25 book, I didn’t see a profile shot but there’s some testing on Wednesday so will give some feedback then. Nocta isn’t in the guide :/
Width is up to 110 from what I saw.

Actually, the new Corvus looks to fit the slot of what the Freeride competitors are looking for. They want the twin tip, high speed stability, and usually a little camber. The Anima is a good ski, just a little wide for the skied up courses as most competition courses don’t get shut down for the time the FWT does. The Atris isn’t beefy enough for a comp ski. The MFree 108 won junior men’s freeride Norams last year, and that’s generally the type of ski on a lot of competitors list. I asked my kid this morning if he’d consider the current Corvus as a comp ski as he never lands switch in a comp, and he said no because he wants to land 540’s and play in the park when he’s free riding and training on his comp skis.
edit: I’d also say that I’m worried if the 191 is really the longest option. With the tail turned up, this is going to ski much shorter than the old one. The 191 will ski like the older 188 and there will be nothing left for those that like the 193.
