Had a music doc weekend on Netflix -

How To Grow A Band: Great documentary about Punch Brothers, and specifically how the band came about after Nickel Creek's breakup and Thile's divorce. Even if you're not a fan, you can't help but be impressed by the band's musicianship and devotion to its concept of bringing intense chamber-style music to the bluegrass genre.

Muscle Shoals: Documentary about the famed Alabama studios and people that created the classic Muscle Shoals soul sound (Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, etc.). Interesting how a band of kind of dorky white guys created the tracks for such classic soul music. Also interesting that Donna Jean from the Grateful Dead sang on "When A Man Loves A Woman" - didn't know that!

Anyone catch Machete Kills?

Totally campy.

Worth watching for Steve Coogan alone. The man is a comic genius,

The TV series Rake is really solid (original Aussie version). 1st episode sucked though. Its kind of a slow burn comedy/drama...I didn't realize how funny it was till a few episodes in.

But Steve Coogan? I found him pretty unremarkable in this particular movie...

It was somewhat of an insiders joke among those watching it... agreed his role was relatively minor. But think it was well done.

His Alan Partridge movie should be streaming soon?

For people who liked Top Of The Lake, the french series The Returned is pretty good. Bunch of people who died years ago start re-appearing in the French Alps town they all came from, and follows the families that get their kin back. Definitely a good watch and GF/wife-friendly.

I was actually surprised how much I got into Damages with Rose Byrne and Glenn Close as well for similar couple viewing.

two cult sci-fi/horror films just popped up...haven't watched 'em yet, but they're in the queue...

Catch season 2 of Orange is The New Black?
Picking up steam the way Weeds did.

White collar was decent, a lot of episodes at least. Get's a little repetitive, but at least there's an ongoing plot.

New BBC Sherlocks are getting good too.

Fascinating stuff - crazy to know that Pele turned down 10 million dollar contract extension in '77, and was highest payed athlete in world over number of years -

Teammates said the hardest part of playing with him was not stopping and staring in shock at how good he was.

Not Netflix, but Primer (the most complicated scifi film ever made) is on youtube. I watched it twice, spent 30 minutes staring at a diagram online and understood it for about 2 minutes. Now I don't understand it again. I'm pretty sure I'm a least a little bit retarded.

Just watched The Art of the Steal, a solid caper/heist film with good direction, nice flow, and a strong cast featuring Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon, Terrance Stamp.
