It sounds like one could get an EP8 in england according to a bloke on Shimano EP8/EP801/EP6 Owners

I have ridden 5600 kms in the area on EP8 > 500kms on Bosch so I can say for sure the 600W and 630W battery are indistinguisable in amount of battery power

SC has somehow made the bikes 3 lbs lighter with Bosch and 4 bar rear suspension, the front end definatley does feel lighter for whatever reason be it design or bosch

I thot I would miss the display but in practise not at all

I like the app on my phone I like bluetooth with no wires on the bars

its a really well finished package

Nice FATe bikes equipped with the Bosch motor are unicorns.
Foes is going to accept orders, someday. $6k for just the frame and motor system. 10k by the time your finished and it will still be well over 50lbs.

Bafang is a heavy motor, but it has been pretty reliable. The problem with all e-bikes, some $50 part you can’t get, turns them into a boat anchor.

Seems like the Bosch motor is the winner, and the new one set to release is even better (quieter, smoother).

Anyone else listen to the Downtime Podcast from last month with Cotic Bikes? Honestly it’s got me all wound up on external batteries. Other than looking terrible, it makes so much sense. Once you hear it, you can’t unhear it.
Basically:
FIRST. Beefing up the downtube to house a battery fucks everything up, and adds a fuck ton of weight.
SECOND. Most of us don’t need massively heavy eight hundred watt batteries. Having a smaller battery with the ability to swap out spares is way more practical.

2 ways to go either an easy to replace battery so user can get an extra battery OR have an extender

for me the 630W of Shimano battery when I bought 4 yrs ago was at the point that Eebs had enough range to give me 4hrs of tight single track at < 13kph in boost I am tired so I go have a beer and I hardly ever run the battery completly out, sure I can run the battery flat at 32kph on a flat road but that is not my normal app

now batteries have got bigger but bigger is heavier the old Bullit & Heckler had easily removable batteries so i could have just got a spare but I never bothered, SC has chosen to go with a built in battery on the new version of Bullit and the Vala which has saved some weight, I didn&#39;t think I would feel it but I do so the front end feels lighter so i don&#39;t miss removeable batteries and I won&#39;t be getting an extender for where I ride

SC had advertised 49 lbs for the old Bullit but the bike was really 52+ with flat pedals on my bathroom scales, new Vala is 50 I think the new Bullit will be the same so the new bikes are about 3 lbs lighter but really there is more to the game than weight the Bosch runs WAY better than the Shimano, the bike handles better feels lighter to ride the bosch is 600W and that battery size will be fine for me

SO I think nowdays you need to be under 50lbs on a full power bike

so yesturday was sposed to be the rollout of the Bosch upgrade of the CX to 100nm so it did not appear to DL

I deleted the app and reinstaled, nothing and no word from Bosch but as a recovering IT person I was not that surprised

I got mine no hassle (iOS).

It looks like others on FB had problems but it went different today and the DLcompleted so its hard to tell what an extra 15NM's does just riding around the block so i will give it a real ride tomorrow

The Avinox motor has assload of power at 120 NM&#39;s so thats 35NM over the standard 85NM full power mtn bike motor and another 20 over the bosch

Me I like Santa Cruz and I know the Bosch name I bought it over the phone and picked it up at the LBS 2 hrs later which appeals to me

so the Avinox is brand new this year it would definatley climb hills, also its a real mtn bike

so yer not trotting out a 70lb hub-motored pavement princess marketed for the socks n sandal set

I know the internet is fapping over the DJI motor, but I'd be REALLY wary of a first gen motor from a Chinese company, especially given that it's marketed as being lightweight but really high power. That's pretty much a red flag for potential durability issues. They haven't been available for very long, basically only obtainable in Europe, but I have heard grumblings on forums there about reliability and warranty hassles. Also, food for thought, but DJI is completely pulling out of the USA because of tariff stuff directly targeting them (as a Chinese drone and camera manufacturer). I read that they're spinning off the ebike motor division into a separate company, but nothing concrete. Given what a fiasco Shimano motors turned out to be, I personally won't consider buying an ebike with Avinox until there's a couple years of history to get a sense for what their warranty is like in reality. I took a pretty big leap of faith on getting a bike with a Fazua 60 (Porsche), and while their warranty support has been acceptable, I'd be really reluctant to wholeheartedly endorse them.

IME SC is the tits they are probably the most prolific high end bike in this town and bosch has been around for a bit so that is awesume

edit: also I am not so sure about pumping 120 NM&#39;s thru the current drive trains whatis that 35% more power ? I did blow up an X01 which is probbaly the best SRAM chain out there right now SO we will see how Bosch&#39;s 100NM&#39;s plays with a T-type chain altho I think SRAM Transmission will handle it

Deniz ^^ ususally writes a pretty good artical and so he was telling us the readers that the Amflo product kept breaking, so WTF are currrent drive trains not up to the task of 120NM being pumped thru them or was the bike just not well thot out ???

My point about the Avinox motors was not that they're from a Chinese company, it was that it feels like the ebike motors across multiple brands have an unacceptable level of failures. The failure rate + high investment cost + nearly impossible ability for local shops to repair failed motors (and on top of that, when they are able to, extremely high replacement cost) mean anyone buying an ebike needs to take serious consideration for the warranty situation. What are the warranty terms? Where do you have to take it for warranty work? What's the motor supplier's replacement parts inventory like? How likely are they to deny warranty claims? What's the turn-around time? These are legitimate questions and concerns. Even what seems like a trivial repair can drag out for months if the motor company sucks to deal with. I know a guy who had his gen1 Bullit sitting at the shop for literally 6 months because Shimano NA wouldn't/couldn't provide a replacement battery holder latch (probably a $2 part). SC couldn't help because Shimano wouldn't give them any spare parts either. In the end, the guy and the shop gave up trying to deal with Shimano and just use a fucking velcro strap to hold the battery in place. Bottom line is that when someone comes to this thread asking for first time ebike buying advice, it's pretty reasonable to bring up the warranty situation.

A buddy, ex master national trials moto champ, picked up a bosch equipped cube stereo maybe 4 years ago with my emtb bosch suggestion. He hadnt ridden mtb's since the banff days in the 90's. He was breaking everything on the bike doing what he does, like every ride from day one. I told him to chill a bit its not a trials moto. He found the limit and now he's on his 3rd or 4th emtb. A bosch equipped mondraker 180 travel. On the bosch system he broke controllers, a motor case etc. Shop in quebec city had him up and running the next day for anything he broke. Bosch parts supply is solid, especially in big cities. Distributors prob in Quebec too.

I’d say, my hype about the DJI has nothing to do with me buying one. It has everything to do with new tech that gets beta tested by the boutique set and eventually makes the industry better.
We were never going to maximize this experience by having a bunch of bike mechanics teach themselves about motors, batteries, and computers. The world is full of nerds from other industries who actually understand that shit.

Updated the CX Race on my ‘23 Wild yesterday and have to concur. EMTB+ was a flipping hoot last night [emoji298]?[emoji298]?

I thot I was pretty lucky to get 4 yrs 5600 kms out of the EP8 cuz I never really trusted that EP8 but then they say no motors available so I gave up on Shimano after about a week and bought a bosch which was the smartest thing I could have done In BC the Shimano rep and the Santa Cruz rep are married, must be some interesting discussions during dinner
