The only compromise youre interested in is gun owners giving up their rights.
i'm very interested in discussing possible ways to improve these problems that aren't just me compromising. if its only one side compromising thats not a compromise.

You can argue it doesn't happen enough to justify gun ownership, but it absolutely happens. Heres the first google result. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-62217263
Pretty much this
But instead of looking inward to see how they can wake up each day and do and be their best they look for an excuse and use someone else to blame for their own struggles
The amount of despair in this country is overwhelming
The amount of people who have given up is even bigger
Lashing out at others is an excuse to get even
The internet and social media stokes the emptiness most people have inside
Taking a walk around the block and unplugging the internet would do many people wonders
Why not look at both?
Reducing access to particularly capable firearms seems like a REALLY low cost, quick and immediately impactful method to reduce gun violence. Why not take that first step, not as a prerequisite to, but while we figure out how to address and fix the much harder societal ills that lead to gun violence (mental health, poverty, education, generational trauma, etc.)
I mean, i would rather disarm the nutjob and then get him some therapy. But you seem to be arguing to keep the nutjob armed to the teeth while getting him therapy. Thats pretty dumb, IMO.
Total nerd.
SKS is an interesting example. Battle rifle or assault rifle? It's got battle features but an assault cartridge. Definitely part of the evolution from one to the other. And it is ban friendly with a 10 round non-detachable capacity out of the box.
What about the original Springfield M1A1? It's really an M14. Battle rifle, not "assault rifle". From back when riflemen were marksmen. Semi-auto. No pistol grip. Long ass barrel. Definitely not an AR. Same role as the even better FAL battle rifle. But with a pistol grip unless you bought one of those inch pattern Century Arms "Sporter" ones in the 90s with the thumbhole stock. The FAL was the right arm of the free world according to the marketing hype. Still definitely not an AR.
For the record, I'm in favor of registration and restriction of these weapons of war as has been suggested up-thread, not total bans. I have realized as I have gotten older that unfettered access is retarted. With great power, comes great responsibility, or something like that. NFA would be fine with me for these if they improved the ATF a little and removed Sheriff from acceptable LEO list, transfer that to the State Police, with funding.
But muh freedumds.....Boiled FrogQuote:
The gunman who killed eight people at an outlet mall in suburban Dallas on Saturday briefly received military training but was discharged from the U.S. Army over a mental health condition after just three months of service, the Army said Monday.
Mauricio Garcia, 33, joined the Army in June 2008 but was “terminated” three months later, failing to complete his initial training, said Heather J. Hagan, an Army spokesperson.
Garcia was separated for an unspecified mental health issue, according to another Army official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of personnel records.

This is the gunman:

MTG assures us that the gunman can’t have been a white supremacist though, since he has a Latino sounding name.
that shit is all over the rwosphere. regardless, a real peach, i’m sure.
After the Boston marathon bombing I said the only way to stop this is someone around the person knowing they were going off the rails. Same w this lunatic.
If ppl know there is someone in their sphere like this, fucking have them looked at.
Long time ago a dude in an adjacent apartment was a gun freak. Talked about it at work, brought a gun to work to show it to a coworker, someone called him in.
Staties came right to his house and took everything the same day.
It's an impossible problem.
bla bla bla its muh rawts bla bla bla.. It actually wasn't supposed to be that way. Hellier was egregiously ruled incorrectly... as was Citizen's United.
Neither The 2nd Amendment nor the 4th article it came from were ever intended/written to guarantee individual, unfettered weapons access to ordinary citizens.. It wasn't so buba could fight gubberment oppression him/herself. It was all about the feds' need to mobilize militias for NATIONAL defense..
Here's leroy altasnob trying to argue that it is about his freedumbs..and totally getting schooled by a legit historian.

no, i am not implying that. i am saying if you read the comments in the ny post or fox news there will be conspiracy theories about the unlikelihood of dems finding a spanish named person to pin crimes on. it’s quite insane.

it’s not impossible. if you weren’t sane enough to serve, no guns. robust background checks for criminal history and mental health. insurance. no person to person sales. yearly training. spot checks by authorities for storage etc.
genie is out of the bottle so there will never be no gun deaths but it can be way less like in every. other. country.
The pics of the dead shooter look like a fat guy, not the thin nazi in the pic...
You don't listen.
This has all been discussed. Almost every poster here would support policies aimed at holistic ways to tackle this problem. Most of them probably vote for politicians and policies that are aimed at addressing many, many of the tangential issues.
People killed by guns have certainly had their rights violated.
9 people shot over 8 hrs in St Louis this last weekend.
Banning AR’s alone, won’t stop any of that.
But this is also the same city where prosecutors fail
To appear and criminals walk free.
We have to do better in so many regards.
IF AR/AK style rifles are banned they'll just be buying more of the kits to covert a semi auto pistol to an AR style weapon... Butt stock attachments, bigger magazines, instant AR from a Glock.. Ya the projectiles aren't as wicked but you can still take out a shitload of shoppers or students with 9mm and 40 cal...
Sung to the tune of "One Piece at a Time" by J Cash
We'll take'em one gun at a time
One gun at a time
it won't cost us a dime
to stop all the sadness in this fine land
Saying one single action won't stop murders is a stupid rebuttal.
But it looks good on you.
