I’m in the same boat. When my Mom recently passed I inherited a huge leather bound Bible that dates to the early 1800’s. When I say huge, it is approx 2 feet by 3 feet and 8-10 inches thick. No idea what this thing is worth.

In the back is a list of birth and death records and a family tree. One of the births listed is my great-great-great grandfather who was KIA as a Union soldier in the Civil War. His death is not listed as the Bible appears to be unused after the 1850s.

None of my immediate family have that last name anymore.

After a lot of emails and calls, I found a very distant relative (4th cousin I think?) who has that last name. He is very religious and is thrilled to be receiving it.

I am currently on a 3,000 mile road trip and I will divert another 500 miles to deliver it. I’m very happy it has found a new home.

A thank you card for the PTs and consumable items for front desk staff is entirely within the ethical standards for a medical clinic. By making the staff happier you benefit the practitioners without putting them in any uncomfortable quid pro quo situation. The PTs can decide if they consume any of the treats.

I worked in a pt clinic way back when and the amount of baked goods and sweets we received was seriously ridiculous. Of course we would appreciate the sentiment but people shouldn’t eat that much sugar.

As far as finding them, maybe a DNA test? Maybe someone in your extended family has done it, or at least if you match to someone who left DNA at a crime scene you'll know who not to give it too.

We found a branch of the family we didn't know about when my sister in law mis-typed my niece's email address.
