I wonder if they’re giving it the anima treatment. Shorter turning radius but shape/rocker profile maintain stability. Seems like with heavily rockered/reverse camber skis they will have one turning radius on hard pack with a small part of the edge engaged but ski much longer in deeper snow. That’s what I liked about my old Pettitors. They felt like a (very very wide) slalom ski on hardpack but charged in deep snow.

The Locator seems to be a cross between or the offspring of the Volkl Blaze and Mfree 108 if that helps, also skied the "Shorty Pants" which will a great pow day ski and wins best name of the year so far.
The binding makes a great demo binding but what doesn't these days (except Tyrolia puke).
Fresh snow groomed into hard pack with wind sift as conditions so maybe not ideal for the skis intent but easy to compare from model to model and brand to brand.

That ski is just so good, maybe they stiffen behind the heel a little bit and offer it in a longer length…. I’d have a 3rd pair then. Lol

I saw a date of 2/1.

Skied next year's QST 106 and this year's Blank over the weekend.
- Blank - I was expecting to love this ski. It was good, but conditions were not exactly ideal for that ski (mostly chalk with a couple steeper pow turns on a firm bottom and some low angle pow). It skied that stuff well for a pow ski, but wasn't a blast. Note that I was on the 178 and 186 and didn't notice a difference between the lengths to be honest. The rep told us the 194 skis different, but that's way too much ski for my size.
- Next year's 106 - awesome ski, so much fun. Skied the exact same runs as with the Blank and the 106 was way more enjoyable for me. I have the maroon 106 that I was A/B testing with and the difference is incredible. The new one is snappier, way more nimble, and more "playful" (I felt like I could lean on the tail to get off the snow and get the tip back on the ground for the next turn very easily), and generally I felt like the ski did whatever I wanted it to. I think I might have to pick up a pair when they come out next year (and I hate buying brand new skis).

At the UK trade show last week they had the specs'n'pics for the 22/23 Scott Patrol E2 30 avi pack but unfortunately didn't have an actual pack to fondle and compare to the E1.

For 22/23 the Alpride E2 system will only be available in the Patrol 30 litre pack and it will be available in very limited numbers (there's only 15 coming to the UK) so to secure one I'd recommend preordering. The existing E1 Patrol 30 and E1 Patrol 40 will both continue unchanged in 22/23.

The E2 system has a few extra features compared to the E1, namely: LCD display, charge statue LED, deflation knob accessible from the outside of the pack and a USB-C charging port (as opposed to the current Micro USB), slightly lighter at 1140g (versus 1280g) and easier to swap out - although there's no other pack sizes coming until 23/24. The system is a different shape than the current one but without seeing it in real life it's hard to tell if it's smaller - and Scott are just saying that it's "reworked" with no claim of being smaller. What is important to note though is that the E2 system will not fit in to an E1 pack as not only is the system a different shape within the pack but also that the tabs that attached the airbag to the pack are different.

The actual pack, which comes in a choice of black or light grey, is also changed slightly with what looks like a slightly higher spec waist band than the current one (which IMO isn't a problem) and the new pack is slightly larger at 62 x 29 x 19cm compared to the current 60 x 28 x 19cm size. Everything else about the pack remains that same but its larger size means that it's 190g heavier than the current pack.

So the slightly larger pack combined with a (possibly) smaller system should mean more usable space - but I don't think that it's going to be significantly more otherwise Scott would be talking that up. And the combined system + pack weight is 2720g so 50g more than the current E1 version.

Unless I change my mind when I get to play with the new pack I see these new features as 'nice to have' rather than radical improvements and with the E2 30 going to be 10-12% dearer than the E1 30 I think I'll be sticking with the E1.
