Guns have been and are a part of american culture. The difference is that for 250 years guns were viewed as productive tools the way same as a good knife or hatchet/axe, or a good horse or automobile... but when shit hit the fan they could be called into service as weapons of war. Now guns are viewed as the best way wield power over others and marketed as weapons of war- whether the intent is altruistic (protection against bad guys with guns), or selfish (he who carries the bigger gun wins the dispute), or irrational (must be armed to the teeth to protect muh freedoms against BLM, Antifa and big govt). Guns as weapons of war used to be a secondary use... culture has shifted so that is the primary use.
