If only there was something we could do...
Regarding “what has changed in society” is that the over-enthusiastic gun manufacturing lobby taught a whole swath of irresponsible people that they deserve and need guns and that they can defend their perceived freedoms however they define them behind the patriotic, macho end of a firearm.
The irresponsible stupid people were always here. The mentally ill were always here. The bullied angry loners were always here. The easily duped useful idiots were always here.
They are just legally armed now. The cat is out of the bag, and every dumb shit can get access and do whatever the fuck they want cuz they are empowered to push their selfish whims on the public at large.
What has changed is propaganda pushed heavily by the gun manufacturers & their purchased legislators salivating at motivated financial donors. That intentionally divisive propaganda says real Americans need and use guns in daily society. Gun sales follow each manufactured 2A panic.
And now we have politically fraught tribalism defined by gun/no-gun lines, road rage, parking rage, lawn rage, doorbell rage, self-styled operators, armed rubes worried about phantom busloads of antifa coming to destroy their tiny downtowns, volunteer property protection, voter intimidation, school board intimidation, protest intimidation, private unregulated militias, kidnapping plans for opposing political party leaders, insurrection planning, etc.
It is fucking stupid, and it is no mystery.
Regular people are tired of it. Larger public perception is slowly changing every day on the 2A by both:
a) the public: the public’s patience with random shootings by enabled angry morons, and
b) gun owners: gun owners aren’t proud of these idiots and can see that plausible deniability for the 2A is crumbling slowly with this course of events. And they have always quietly understood the entirely predictable public danger of unregulated lethality.
There is a whole class of people who don’t want a ban, but do see regulation as entirely reasonable, and they are growing and will rewrite laws eventually. They will join with the gun ban crowd if gun owners continue to pursue the no compromises path. Then gun owners may end up with de facto bans.
