The remodel got written up when they did it, the story goes something like this: they moved from New York in the 2010s and planned to bike everywhere. Then they found out that Portland's bike infrastructure is only great when compared to, say, Dallas and you really have to be a strong / confident / experienced rider to give up your car. At that point one of the owners wrote some complainy letters to the editor / Bike Portland posts about how the bike infrastructure fell short of expectations, lol.

Whatever, still a really cool remodel.

A friend of a friend once said his dream home was a windowless tower with a moat, circled by mad max motorcycle guards. We adjusted it to old warehouse, in a city, ground floor would be 100% garage/shop. Freight elevator, band practice space / home studio, living area(s), and the whole roof would be a deck.

That's not that far off.

I'm a big fan of white/light gray/concrete with black floor-to-ceilings. I dig it. The lower level dedicated to garage and rec spaces just need to be flipped.

Agree. All the tile immediately stood out. Well designed and nicely executed from what the pics show.

The garage, I do not get storing firewood -- seasoned or not -- inside any conditioned living space. Just asking for trouble in the pests and insects dept.

I certainly would not want to live under the thing. A bit troll-ish eh? I appreciate a bridge in order to get from A to B, but looking at one constantly is not what I'd consider a good thing. Dirty and loud. Not for me.

They almost had a boat go off that thing the other day, some guy's trailer broke and the boat came off and bounced around and it ended up sideways across the roadway. That must have been an exciting few seconds.

That bridge ain’t exactly amenable to sound deadening shrubbery along the edges, so you get that background noise. Hard pass.

A few years back I was invited to a cocktail party at the suburban Maryland home of this Brazilian couple. Nice private back yard but the sound wall for the DC Beltway ran right across the back edge of the property and you could clearly hear the steady stream of traffic, slightly muffled by the wall.

I said something to the wife of the couple that it was a nice yard but it was shame about the noise and she said, "Yeah when we bought the place we thought the noise was from a waterfall."

They have an eight-lane highway behind a 20-foot sound barrier in the back yard, and they're nowhere near the river, but they thought it was a waterfall making the noise. A very wtf moment.

But maybe you could convince yourself the noise from the bridge comes from a waterfall?

We live 100 yds from a rushing river and I90 is another 300 yds further. Lady makes sence.

When we first moved here, my wife didn't know the general geography very well. She started taking the dog for long off-leash walks in the big nature park at the south end of town, and reported back how great it was, and that I should come with her.

So next time I accompany her, and at one point I say, "don't let the dog go off the trail to the right here. The freeway is just down that hill"

Interesting find. Owing to seeing zero evidence of clutter in any photo the inside is staged, and is done so quite well.

The listing says meticulous maintenance, but that doesn't apply all 100%. Brick work on circular driveway is meticulous, as is landscaping, brick patio area and drywall painting. But no pics of mechanicals, not even a water heater.

I do agree on kitchen appliances, how can a $4.5 MM home skate by with appliances that look like they came from a 1990s discount store?

"Bennett Rd" is the point where you can stop reading, and move on the the next listing. The smoke stack visible in the first picture is a business that cuts and coats utility poles. The SW corner of the lots touches their compound. I don't know how much they've been forced to clean up their production, but from the 40s to the late 90s they polluted the soil and groundwater all the way down to the bay. It was designated a superfund site in the late 90s - and the cleanup still isn't finished.

The smoke stack in picture 7 is a cement plant. The adjacent property to the north is an auto body shop. I doubt there's a single quiet minute.

"Zoned light industrial" doesn't give off quiet neighborhood vibes

Yeah, a lot of the houses on that end of Bennett have businesses in them. The truth is you could pretty much do anything non-residential with the lot, but you'd need to get the house next door as well, and tear them both down.
