Hey Mountain High fans. GREAT NEWS! Fire raced through the area yesterday but all the main lifts and buildings survived with little to no damage. Thank you to all the employees and fire fighters for their hard work. Our hearts go out to the Wrightwood families that may be suffering. We are with you! [emoji3590][emoji1303][emoji1320][emoji3587]

Looks like it is starting up the slope on Mt. Baden Powell, my go to backcountry spot. Sure hope the very old trees survive.

Mt Waterman fuckery
It could work out ok. Their problem is LA county or Caltrans don't plow the road and keep it closed for any little issue. Ideally they would have the rich people helicopter in to ski while the road is closed and then if the road is open have reasonable priced lift tickets for the public. I wonder if they plan to fly in employees or have them all staged in a yurt or something. All a pretty big gamble for a few storms a year at best and possibility of no natural snow some years. I think all the land is USFS, so not like they can build anything.
No way, for exactly that reason. No one with helicopter money is paying for a country club experience at Waterman, they're flying to their chalet in the Alps or chilling on the lake in Tahoe.Quote:

IDK, but seems like a lot of people with money to waste in LA/SD area...judging by all the cyber trucks I see, ha. Maybe if Waterman offers financing and can market to the tech/cyrpto bros.
But yeah, I don't think the odds are in their favor. I also don't see how the traditional approach would work since the road is never open after storms. Seems like everyone who pays full price for lift tickets wants to do it the day after the storm. Despite the skiing being typically better in spring conditions. Anyone seen if the new owners paid asking price?
Regardless, should be slightly entertaining to see what happens.

I skied Baldy on Friday and conditions were about as good as I've ever experienced there. Snow was soft and creamy all day, with another handful of inches falling throughout the day. Spent most of the day lapping South Bowl, which was super fun.Saturday a buddy and I toured up San Antonio and caught a couple of laps off West Bowl. Definitely a little sun/wind affected and variable in the trees. A bit firmer, but really consistent out in the bowl itself. Definitely two days of the best turns to be had in SoCal for the season.
How were the crowds?

On Friday there was definitely a crowd, but I never waited more than a couple of minutes for chair 3 and I got fresh turns basically every run. Saturday there was traffic heading up the hill starting from the village, but the time I got back to Manker the trailhead was absolutely mobbed. I assume the resort was the same.
