I'm the guy looking for a hook-up at Powder Mtn., Snowbasin, and/or Alta next week. My home hill is Monarch Mountain and if anybody is passing through the area let me know and I'll give you the nickel tour. I usually venture forth to the Crested Butte, Silverton and/or Taos/Wolf Creek during the season and make a trip or two to Winter Park where my cousin has installed himself the past 10 years or so. My highlight reel consists entirely of skiing Glen Cove on Pikes Peak last spring. I got back into skiing a few years ago (oddly enough at Happo One in Japan) after a 20-year hiatus (marrying a flatlander and living in the southeast will do that to you). In that time I've poached some good stuff off these forums so I figured I ought to reciprocate. Thanks.
greetings, i ski in the east, mostly killington b/c its close. wonder whats going on most of the time
Long time occasional lurker from Australia, now hanging out in the real mountains of the Canadian Rockies (Canmore).
hi--
30-something yo, grew up near Park City.... been lurking a while and appreciate all the great info here.
Alright, I've taken the plunge. I've spent a ton (probably way to much) of time on other forums so I'm hopefully not a total JONG. This place is awesome, ive been lurking for 2 + years, but never joined due to a fear that ill be totally consumed, but ive come to grips with that and i can't wait to get involved in this great community.
Born and raised at the mouth of LCC, moved downtown SLC for a year, but couldn't resist the call of snowbird, so im back living at the mouth off LCC, and skiing as often as i can. 21 years old, local and loving it.
CO resident for 20 years, ski a fair amount in Utah. Spent the past 30 years with all 3 vises. Started with alpine in grade school. Got my first snowboard (Burton Performer w/ skegs) in jr. high. Started tele back '93 and have pretty much focused on that since. Prolly tele 90% of the time but wanting to get back into alpine again. Oh, and TGR is the best of any forum I've seen. This place is just an amazing resource for (most) of my addictions.
Long time Lurker. 39, Utah resident. I've been skiing for 3 years. Met some great Mags this weekend and I guess I'm ready to jump in.
this place is like my septic tank......full of terds.
23 y.o. skier here, born & raised in Vail. Just graduated CU in May and am very happy with my choice to come back and ski full-time, work part-time (Ski School at the Beav). I'm glad I didn't know about this forum in school or else my grades may have suffered.
My words of wisdom: stop traversing so much and ski your line from the top - or your lazy ass may get sprayed as I blow by you!(exception: riding the wave on Ghengis on a sh!tty day) Eat at Fiesta Jaliscos & Pazzos when you are in the valley, Montauk, Lancelot, & Terra Bistro if you have the scrill$$$. Drink at the George. Wear your ski pass when you're out skinning and use it to scrape off the little bit of snow before folding your skins up. Put your sandwich in a tin. Cook with shallots more often. And ski like you mean it.
I hope to meet some other Vail/Beav mags soon!
Man I want those free skis!!!!!!:rolleyes2
Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...
Just moved to WA and don't know a lot of skiers... Over on the east coast, they think my 177s are big, but I know better. Too bad they don't match my outfit... Then I'd be really cool.
I'm somewhat underemployed at present and occasionally take day trips I really can't afford if the weather gods provide something I really have to ski.
Lurked on here for a while but finally registered. 24 years old, been skiing since I was 3 on East coast man-made snow and ice in Western NY. I've skied all over NY and Vermont, but have only taken one trip out west to Colorado last year and skied with my friend at Winter Park. I'm currently in the process of applying to graduate schools for mechanical engineering and it looks like between the opportunities for skiing, climbing, hockey and school I might end up in Salt Lake City next year.
24. I just started skiing last year. I live in Geneva and ski Le Grand Bornand. I'm a complete amateur but I'm working on it. I'd like to try making skis.
Hey,
New jong here. Long-time lurker. 32 year-old skier, live in Truckee and ski Squaw.
Have a few friends on this board and thought I would finally (wo)man up and join.
Think I am finally ready for the jonging... let the games begin!
:D
Its time i jumped in here too. Jump.
New Jong (as the name implies).
Have been lurking for a few months and havent had anything productive to say, so I've basically kept my mouth shut and tried to follow the flow of this great forum.
31 y.o, long time East Coast skier living in CT that was introduced to the forum after my first trip to Jackson Hole. Life changing trip that I will try to replicate annually. I get about +/- 15 days in a year, but work far too many hours to make skiing as big a part of my life as I would like it to be. Fledging backcountry skier that is focused on learning the basics before I get myself into some hairy situations.
Goal for 2009 is to do a month of "working man's ski bumming" out west when my wife and baby are overseas. Hopefully I'll make it happen.
Hola.
<basura> sometime lurker. 35 years on the 3rd stone. many years on alpine gear, last few on tele but nobody cares and I don't. currently on hydrocodone with spiral fracture of fibula.
<Home = oregon, willamette pass (it's working right now)/>
</basura>
Ahoy!
Been lurking for a bit, figured I might as well stop being a lazy $hit and register. 26, grew up in NH, and like the rest of you, am addicted to snow. Somehow work took me to NYC where there's no snow, no mountains, and only a couple trees - but lots of bars. Fortunately, I venture north every weekend, but hopefully during the week all of you can keep me educated/entertained.
Good talk. See ya out there.
Hi All. Big fan of your work: most of the time it's as close to skiing as i can get - British Med student is not a happy combo for wannabe ski bum. I need to move somewhere colder.
6 month lurker stepping out from the shadows...
Very cool place. The stoke here has encouraged me to step up my game.
Old fart from the midwest who moved to the Front Range 10 years ago. Finally got bitten by the ski bug and am now fairly well hooked. Hoping not to step on myself too many times as I venture into this place.
I'm Ben, skied last winter out in whistler, living with Jim Lad off here.
Skiing on Mojo 90s as every day and Pontoons as my schralp sticks.
I suck ass, but I'll try most stuff and love pow more than my own faminly.
Did 07-08 winter in Whistler, spent Summer in Chamonix MTBing and skiing the summer glacier in Tignes (that's my evil park rat side)
anyhoooooooo i'm rambling, so holla, i look forward to becoming one of you strange folk
peaaaace
Been lurking here for years without saying boo.
The death of Shane kinda got me thinking that there is more to life than just watching, maybe got to participate too.
figured its time to join up
Long time lurker and finally sacked up and decided to register.
Totally ate up with snow season, life long skier. Ride my MTB in the summer. Going Pro as a ski patroller next season after deciding to make a career change at 40 and get the fuck out of an office. Now my office is 11K acres and couldn't be happier even if it's East Coast.
Been a huge fan of TGR for the movies, commitment to the community and so on. Nice to see a forum that caters to all the action sports and just doesn't limit to one.
Looking forward to making a positive contribution to the board.
Checking in. Grew up skiing and racing in the upper MN hills and the East Coast. I thought skiing was all about racing. Then I moved west...
Bet you didn't know Greeks invented skiing, did yia! George here, 40 yr old has been skiing since HS. I’ve spent most my life as a blue cruising; I70 is the best place to ski in the world Jong. My friends make fun of me because I love to follow the cats around for fresh corduroy.
I took some time off & have recently jumped back in w/both feet. Work took me to Seattle where I was introduced to Mt. Baker as we blew the cobwebs back off. My new wife loves the Wild West & looks like JH will be our hot spots for many yrs to come. Unfortunately I am land locked here in the MW, where the vert barely exceeds cliff you maggots are hucking these days :-(
Shane's recent passing has instilled a new fire in me, to really enjoy every day we have here on earth & to make the most of it. I have to coin a cheesy line that I often catch myself repeating to folks as I try to lure them out to the mountains; get out there & do it today because you'll be at least a yr older when you decide too.
You guys rock & so do this little community…glad I joined.
Snowboarder here marooned in Brooklyn. Want to do Tucks this spring. Hit me up. Maybe I can learn something from you guys. Word to your mothers.
P.S. I was on this forum last winter when I lived in keystone but haven't been back til a couple weeks ago. awesome hook-ups, meet-ups, fuck-ups... cool place to be. Only advice to new mags like me is if that if you can't take shit than don't dish it out!
New to this, but I know what's expected of a JONG.
Old as hell.
Never lurked here, just jumped in and hope to follow someone's line.
Shane's passing moved me to join and share the love.
I ride short hills most of the time, hence the location.
John has a long mustache.
New here too, looked like a good place to post and get made fun of for what you said. I love to ski. Backcountry is the greatest, would be greater if I was unafraid of heights and exposed ridges. But I am facing my fears in the hope they will go away. Anybody got spare cash to buy me Dynafits and AT boots? My freeride +'s and alpine boots are HEAVY.
Word.
Nice! Thanks for the heads up - all future whining will be inside my head...
total forum jong here!
just found the site while looking for ski reviews, and found tons of help here, so thanks to everyone already for that! figured id join in on all the fun...
born and raised nj, been skiing since i was about 5 (mainly on the ice coast), now 23 and recently graduated college. my major sucked so im now an unemployed pos ski bum. good times!
gotta go back to work the summer in nj, but planning on returning to tahoe for the 09/10 season.
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Great resource here. For what, I have no idea.
Life long left coaster. Ski joneser since I first strapped em on in 78.
I don't miss my spademans.
Hello to all the minions. Been lurking around for some time now and decided to get hooked up and chat with the maggots. I am sure there will be some JONG mistakes but I am ready for the harassment!
Been skiing for about 3 seasons after a decade of boarding. Love riding deep days and face shots (surprise, surprise). In Vail and have been here for about 4 years. Wondering if I have met any of you maggots yet in the lift lines... Anyway, see you guys in the forums. Pleasure to meet you!
