WOW... lots of great projects lately!

RS and SFB, very nice. That kitchen is sick, but the man cave is sickter.

RS, did you do any of the design of the house? Either way, it's top notch!

Roxtar, are those plates on the Big Daddies, so that you can mount any binding on them? Nice boot dryer, too.

Yea, it replaces the Atomic captive plate to allow the use of any binding.

That's what I thought. Would you consider making another pair of plates for a fee? I'm having a hard time trying to mount the same exact skis, because of the factory plate.

Poplar Bench

I finished this bench a few days ago and just took some pictures in my neighbor's back yard. The bench was built from thick scraps of poplar that my friends parents had milled from their yard. The ones I used were in a huge muddy pile and I was able to save them, dry them out, and create a bench that I hope you all like. The bench has live a live edge front, back and legs.

I used a poplar spline to join the two main pieces of the bench. The ends are filled in with walnut so that it looks like it was used instead.

There were some splits in the wood so I used butterfly joints to keep them from opening up anymore. They were made out of walnut also.

I held the back on with re-bar. I bent all the pieces with a re-bar bender, drilled corresponding holes into the back of the bench and bottom of the support and then epoxied it all together.

Damn, really really nice bench. I REALLY like the rebar idea. making sweet shit out of industrial/almost free stuff is about as cool as it gets. I like the butterfly joints too.

Is that thing going to live outside? I don't know if I've ever seen spalted poplar before....sick work.

I finished it with something that is supposed seal it for outdoor use and I sealed the bottom of the legs with epoxy. I will see how the stuff holds up. I have heard good things. I like the rebar idea as well. It looks pretty good and is tough enough for this application.

I have a coffee table I will post soon. It's nothing like the bench. I think everybody will like it.

I just have to post here again to say there is some seriously cool shit being built here. That bench rules btw. And when I redo my kitchen I'm including a coffee station for sure.

Now, when I build something worthy of showing off here, I'll post some pictures.

I work at a woodworking store and it's what we sell. One of my coworkers said he used it on a bench and has held up well over the last 6 months. We shall see.

I've wheeled with Matt from Rockware. Great guy.

This was a WErock comp rig a few years ago.
Competing is now a rich man's game and she is retired to the trails.

I'm actually considering moving to the Springs if things work out.

I know Ben Robbins, who I believe co-drove with matt @ KOH this year if I have my facts right.

The springs is a good place for rock sports. JT Taylor / Lovell Bros / Rockware / etc. XRRA course right out side the city limits, 45 min to Independence.

I've been to the badlands a couple of times and a friend of mine runs in the RRock series.

Pine Plywood and Walnut Coffee Table

I finished this a while ago and just took some pictures this afternoon.

The table was made from A/C Pine plywood from Home Depot, a little mid grade Walnut and some adhesive backed Walnut veneer.

The plywood was cut into strips then flipped on edge and glued together in groups. The groups of five or six pieces were then jointed and planed so they all had the same thickness. Then I glued the larger groups into two sections and planed those two down. This allowed me to do the final glue up with just one joint. It was a lot easier getting it even this way.

Nothing really special construction wise but I like the looks of it. The legs are 45 degrees to the corners and come all the way through the top. They are just through mortise and tenon joints. Glue and friction.

I started this about a year ago. It is a R/C snowcat being scratch built from aluminum stock. By the time I am done it will have functioning hydraulics. It is taking sometime but I think when it is finished it will be more than worth it.

The most recent work is on the tracks. It takes some serious time bending all the metal for the grousers. Then there are the 8 m2 screws that hold each grousers to the belts. So 1100 little screws and nuts later the tracks will be held together.

wow dude that is some serious detail! cool project! You building the parts with a benchtop mill?

I am doing things the hard way. Just a cordless drill, Dremel, hacksaw and a file.
