Dammit. I suck at FB. I seriously went to their FB page and the most recent post I saw was from weeks ago. I guess if you’ve got to suck at one thing, FB is good as any.
Hope I can skin the WROD today to get some exercise.
EDIT: oh, I see. They posted on Monday at 3:38pm. Thanks for the notice Vail. My socks were already packed by then. Why did they not make this call and communicate a week ago? And as Pointed our, website still had a Wednesday opening date listed yesterday. And I once thought Cohee was rock bottom. Now he is the gold standard.
Snowflakes in the air on Kingsbury
Got a last mountain bike ride in on toads today, riding up about 10:20 from Luther we had snow flurries all the way to the top, then the sun broke back out for the way down, mountain biking has been great this fall but ready for some sliding on snow.

Btw on the way out for a ride yesterday morning as I was driving past kirkwood it looked like they had blown snow from the top of 6 to the bottom but it sure did not look deep enough to ski yet from my vantage point

Just looked at KW base cam. Snow and wind.
Hey, heh...

Anyone going to brave the WRODs tomorrow? Is it usually stupidly busy?
kirkwood snowstake is up and running and looks good (meaning it looks like it will work good). It hasn't even blown over yet and there's no stream in the background
Was just driving out in the Xmas valley area just now and it’s dumping big fat wet flakes, hard to see, according to a friend full on shitshow on 88 earlier today.
I drove up 88 today around 3ish. No shit show for us. There was a car that went off the road by Ham’s, but otherwise no issues.
Drove by plenty of gnarly accidents between here and Santa Cruz.
About 4” out there at 10pm. Dumping. Felt nice. Can’t wait to skin the WROD tomorrow. I’ll be so sad if it gets completely buried.
Any idea about whether they will give you a hard time. Was planning on heading to Sierra just because I'd hate to drive to KW and then get turned around by security.
edit- i know they have an uphill hiking policy just not sure about how it melds with wrod. another 4" and then monte wolf is good to go. In fact with 8" at the base it's probably good anyway
editing my edit- i don';t know where the snowstake and thus the 8" is
11” on the deck railing at 7750’. Should be good to go.
I imagine they would not want me on their WROD.
Roasting chestnuts now so I can play in the snow later. Looks fun out there. Decent base building snow at that.
I imagine Montes and Sentinel are good to go if you don’t mind a few scrapes.
Looking at the snotels on the south side of the lake look pretty good, 12” Carson, 11” at Echo, 11” at heavenly all with around 1 1/2 inches of water content, good base building stuff.
Looks like winter out!
If you heading to the resorts, best hit it hard today - tomorrow looks fugly.
🤗
So cool to see snow up on the hills around CC.
Even Virginia City hill got coated, and that's at about 6,000'.

Wow.
HV closed for day...
Rose has NW chair on windhold, but Lakeview turning.
No changes at SV/AM & NS.

Tried to go to Sierra but turned around at the bottom of the road by the plow guy. Had to work at 11 so Kirkwood wasn't an option at that point.
Shralped the fuck out of Housewife Hill (after stopping halfway down to rub on some wax so i didn't have to push).

echo laps are not quite in yet

I bet Heavenly opens the dipper chair tomorrow based on what I see from the webcam, friend also reported they had blown snow on stagcoach from what they could see yesterday before the storm blew in.
Got video of you sending that pillow line Court

Bummer. The WROD at KW got completely buried. Ruined.

At least it was fun enough nearby. Based on what I saw, they should be able to get some things open over the next few days. As long as this next one does not rain on us. The usual early season runs were all in.
I am hoping I can get up to Rose tomorrow for my first turns of the season. Yes, I’m thinking positive thoughts about no-win holds and maybe even meet up with somebuddy that wants to show me around in case they open some new stuff.

Finally starting to look like winter. Stepped outside the house yesterday and took this around 1:00 p.m. Didn't make it up there. Anyone ski Rose on T.G. day?
I'm just checking in from Quintana Roo, where I've been waiting out the autumn doldrums. It appears that it will at least look like winter when I return....
Oh, and thanks to the former part time resident guy for creating a map so we can know what places should be avoided. Seriously, if a USGS topo map isn't sufficient to point someone to good ski terrain, they have no business being in the backcountry without guidance from someone who doesn't rock a gaper gap.Attachment 256781

So. From the couch it looks like another 8” over night. I’ll get a better reading after some coffee.
Yesterday, at 2pm I climbed to about 8500’. Snow was about 18-20” deep on an open slope (not really a deposit zone) in a variety of spots. At 7800’ a few tops of grass were showing. At least a foot deep, possibly more. I forgot to take a measure. Did not hit a single thing. Nice thick, slow, base building snow.
Kirkwood has closed the mountain to uphill traffic due to snow making and mountain operations. No one answering the phone to discuss options. Nothing going on beyond the TC base and I saw no activity over by 10/11. The terrain off 11 looks super fun right now, but too exposed to security.
Hope they plan on getting 5/11 going for Saturday and maybe 6.
The bottom of the Sentinel return still needed about 18” more snow to fill in the holes and cover the big downed tree (who leaves a big downed tree going over a groomer - one job we could have besides snow making is summer grooming). I imagine the hole at the bottom o Zacks is even bigger, but maybe they have been working on filling that up based of TahoeBC observation from a few days ago.
Gotta give props when deserved. Thought it was pretty cool seeing a 15’ high dome of snow at the base of 7. They have two guns over there right by the base, and they have clearly been blowing snow over there, which should be enough for them to open TC after today (as long as it does not rain). At least there is some smart snow making efforts and not just WROD building.
Snow currently with very little wind.
Soooooo.......it’s not raining in Tahoe today?
