Wanted a beer but not IPA so I stopped in at Lightning. For a long time these guys refused to brew IPAs. They gave in some years back but their non IPA beers are still their best. Many beers have awesome spice notes that make the beer almost tingle on your tongue. Had an Elemental Pilsner and Thunderweizen at the brewery, and got a growler of Electrostatic Ale (French farmhouse ale, 10.8%) to go. Need to stop in here more often.

Continuing the quest for non IPAs.
Found a Lost Abbey pilsner at a local bottle shop that is pretty good.

some sources say the recipe changes every year,
other sources say not ....
I thought this incarnation didn't have much flavor,
I'm still going to drink the fuck out of it

^^^and the Cascadian Dark Ale / Black IPA squabble continues.
WTF happened to beer? Every place stocks 50 kinds of IPA, 20 kinds of hard cider, and a dozen beers with fruit in them, but almost zero stout, bock, porter, or dark beer. It's the middle of October and there is practically no Octoberfest around.
I don't like IPA. Maybe it's just the word "pale." Have people become afraid of beer that you can't see through? Fuck "hazy" bring back the dark!
what happened to beer? where have you been the past 5 years?
the only Oktoberfest I've seen locally are
Samuel Adams and Sierra Nevada
.
I've been drinking von Trapp Brewing's Vienna, Kolsch, Helles, and Pilsner as of late. The mixed 12 pack helps. It's not some white whale beer but they do what they do very well.
I like me some Dunkel.
Lots of Marzens available around these parts this year... where you blokes shopping? Midwest?? :fm:
Dang. The Jubelale, Pelican Cascade Dark, and Arrogant Bastard are all such good cold weather brews.
Tons of "local" Oktoberfest-style beers in the coolers around here. It is Oregon, I guess. Plus all the fresh hop beers are still out (even the non-IPAs).
Recently been enjoying the offerings from Van Henion Brewing - Pilsner, Helles, and Kolsch are all fantastic.

I bet that’s delicious. Living in this valley, the only thing that I like about Leavenworth is you can get great German beer on tap.

TF Brewing has a pale ale that is fantastic. American Ave is the name. No picture. It looks like beer. You’re welcome.
So far I've had Deschutes Jubelale, SN Celebration, and Hopworks Abominable for winter seasonals this year. All good. I always enjoy Celebration, but I definitely tend to darker, more malty options in the winter.
