I'm thinking I would mount them back just enough to clear the previous holes. Shouldn't be more than 1 cm.

New BG topsheets are very nice.
C&D's are my favorite for a third year in a row!
^ and another.
Two words for the Jeffrey 114s. Crud busters. Super fun day skiing in Crested Butte in thin wind blown conditions. Loving the skis. They demand to be driven and when you do, so much fun.

So... this year's 186 Wren 112's... you guys stiffened those up a bit in the actual production version vs. the prototypes people were concerned about, correct? Cause those things slay like no other ski I've ever been on, including the original Cochise. Holy shit. Talk about a charging ski. Brought them out in straight-up Tahoe shit-fuck conditions and damn. The Wrens are *not* a ski for pussies... I'll say that.
^^^^^Interesting... I have the first gen 191 Wrens and to this day I have yet to ski such a charging ski, but at the same time a breeze to ski... Powtrons review on this ski is what got me locked on ON3P and was spot on saying the ski gets after it, but still has an easy way about it... Sounds like the new model has been turned up...
I would really like to give the new 112 a shot, but would need it in the 190 something... The 191 114 Jeffrey and 191 106 Kartel are def peaking my interest... Was pretty sure I was going with the 191 106 Kartel, but some of the comments about it being a bit noodly may make me go another direction...
So there's really four generations of Wren 112s. Pulled some of this from Scott's post in an old thread here: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ess-old-vs-new
-1st gen: 09/10 and 10/11, full twin tail, mount point at -9cm, 181 and 191 lengths
-2nd gen: 11/12, shark nose tip and flat tail, mount at -14cm, 181 and 191 lengths
-3rd gen: 12/13 and 13/14, elliptical tip and low tail rocker, mount at -9.75cm, 181 and 191 lengths
-4th gen: 14/15 and 15/16, tighter sidecut, mount similar to 3rd gen (I think, haven't measured), 176 and 186 lengths (and 181 for 15/16)
I own 1st gen 181s, 4th gen 186s, and have skied 3rd gen 191s. Scott indicated the flex between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens is pretty much the same. I would say the flex of my 4th gen 186s is also basically the same as the 3rd gen 191.
I think the first gen ski felt a little more playful than subsequent versions due to the more forward mount and twin tail. The newer skis are more directional, and do want to be driven, but I don't think the new 186 is hard to ski, provided you're a technically proficient skier that can drive the tips. They are completely intolerant of tailgunning, but as long as they're pressured from the center or forward, they're not terribly demanding. But they don't have a speed limit and are very happy being pushed HARD.
The thing I've most enjoyed about the 186 Wren is that the shape and subtle tail rocker really allow you to shut down speed at whim, much more so than some of the other charging skis I've been on (190cm Icelantic Seeker, for example).
Yeah, I don't think the Wrens are hard to ski just that I was impressed by how hard you could ski them. They definitely prefer to go fast.
Adrenalated,
Thanks for the response... And I do remember Scott putting up the comparisons... I am still beyond pissed I never picked up the 3rd gen before they stopped making the 191... I still have a huge spot in my hart for my orig 191 Wrens and to this day probably had one of my best days ever on this ski (day after storm with junked up soft snow and this ski just blew through it and made the whole mountain a blast)... The skis don't come out much since I picked up my Billys, but am really kind of intrigued by the new Wrens... I am a huge ON3P and Praxis fan boy and to see where Scott and crew came from and where they are today has been incredible to watch evolve... And no one will ever pry my 186 Grizzly Corn Viciks from my hands...
Everyone...thanks for the on-going discussion.
I just got back to civilization and am having a hard time remembering what day it is, haha. The new thread will be up tonight with pics, specs, observations, etc.
Probably a super JONG question...but let's pretend you shredded your 191 BG edges due to low snow and skiing anyway because tools not jewels and you trust on3p builds.
How does one go about tuning them to get the edges back to their original sweetness?
And I don't need a link to slide wright or ski tuning 101. I followed directions...but the performance is almost as bad after the tune as it was before. 1 degree base? 2 degree side? Take them to a shop who is probably better at tuning than I am?
Ah! Rowen! Thank you!
What does the new BG look like? Not graphics, minor improvement was mentioned.
looks like same sidecut but 2cm shorter in the tail is what I understood
I'm not sure if that means the tail is more flatish and lower, assuming the same rocker profile and cutting 2cm, or if the rocker was adjusted compatible and only the sidecut/taper was kept as is in order to maintain the radius and contact length
curious to figure out where the mount point is now... wondering if now it looks a little more back than before
waiting for powtron 2015/2016 thread to start asking questions
Any idea when the demo fleet will be put up for sale?
Ongoing review. I don't get too interested in the details, what they use, etc, but the bases are strong. Put a small core shot in mine today, but it was a big hit and other skis I have owned would have crumbled. Nothing some ptex won't fix.
Low tide here in CB this year and I am not skiing to save the skis. Thanks for making a number product. Attachment 163491
