PJ09.....I have not forgotten you my friend and will see you at magic for sure .. you going to BD's on the 20th????
also just for shits and giggles i called Baxter State park..... there are outfitters that you can hire to shuttle you gear and you to a point. from there its like 2.5 miles back to the cabins .. no sled access all the way but 2.5 miles is cetainly easiert than 15 mile slog ....
I've heard of people with wilderness first aid training (whose presence in the park is appreciated for obvious reasons) hitching free rides. That's about it.
Edit: Snowmobiles are allowed in a few areas in the park, but not, at least at first glance, anywhere near Katahdin.
Squalling pretty hard down to the valleys. Looks like the mountains are getting it.
Lovin the sled option! That would make a Chic Choc / Katahdin combo even more of a possibility! I love when a plan starts to come together . . .
Bam!

FKNA! you're right!
"Snowmobiles have been permitted on the primary Park access road, called the Park Tote Road."
link to map with Tote Road clearly marked as such: http://www.ncrivers.com/images/BaxterStatePark.pdf
^^^^^ was wondering when someone was going to pick up on my post....:)
skied some more leaves and grass and moss and rocks and sticks... and for good measure there was a little snow mixed in there too. nothing epic, but we had fun. the sun came out too which was nice:

in other news is the snow-mo access to baxter new this year? can anyone drive a sno mo in on that road? Or is it for guides/gear-haulers only?
Hmm. Now I'm not so sure. Rules:
5.8. Snowmobiles may be used on Matagamon, Nesowadnehunk and Webster Lakes and Lower Togue Pond, and on the following road or trail segments within Baxter State Park:
5.8.A. The Park Tote Road between the southern Park boundary at so-called Caribou Pit and the Park boundary just south of Matagamon Landing;
5.8.B. The so called Logan Pond Road along the north shore of Lower Togue Pond;
5.8.C. The spur road between the Park Tote Road and Camp Phoenix; and
5.8.D. The existing trail along the East Branch of the Penobscot River from Second Lake Matagamon to the northern boundary of the Park.
Unauthorized use of snowmobiles in any other portion of the Park is prohibited. Operators of snowmobiles must comply with all requirements of State Law.
The map I posted above labels the road to Roaring Brook "Tote Road." But this one, from the BSP website calls it Roaring Brook Rd.
Edit: Looks like you could use a snowmobile to shorten the approach for a one day (bad ass) ascent up the Abol Slide Trail, but I don't think you can snowmobile on the road to Roaring Brook/ Chimney Pond.

1 plate, 5 screws and 13 stitches (now removed). Yeah boy!
T-minus 24 1/2 hours til I get married and feeling one hell of a lot better than I thought would be possible after my bonehead crash last week.
interesting. That'd be pretty awesome even just day tripping off Abol slide. A. you could get up and over kinda like skiing via the cog, and b.) There's really good skiing in some years on the Abol slide side of the mtn too. Just needs east winds and snow though kinda like we had in 09-10....
i bet if we completely ignore philipsirjongalot, he'll go away....reeady? GO!!!:D
