Wow, glad to hear Steve and everyone else are ok.
just a rumor to my knowledge. when i left at 5:30, control work was finished and everyone was accounted for w/o even taking a ride. there were a lot of natural avalanches today and the same for explosive and ski cut slides.
happy to hear all are ok in silver fork.
Just got back from the hospital and spoke with J West's wife and Jason for a bit. They all are fine--if not a bit rattled--understandably so. I didn't see Steve, but spoke with his wife and she seemed to be just fine (quite remarkable for a woman who is 8 mos. pregnant and nearly lost her husband). Details were still somewhat sketchy--I didn't really want to take up too much of their time and wanted to let them do their thing. Apparently, the slide was really big, and Steve was buried for a good 15 min. Don't really want to speculate much more--I'm sure Xover will get on here in his own due time and fill us all in. What I do know is that Jason said they repeatedly ignored signs and signals warning them of an unstable snowpack. I'm not here to preach, moreover to plead with everyone that chooses to tour to heed the signals the mountain is sending. Trust your gut. Stay alive.
Glad to hear everyone is ok. +++++++
++vibes++
saw the heli overhead when I was touring in little today.
Whoa. Glad to hear everyone's ok.
Scary stuff. Glad you're all ok. Hopefully this will make people extra careful, for a little while at least.
I'm glad everyone's going to be alright - it's way to early in the season for this kind of news. Not that there is ever a good time for an avalanche to bury friends and loved ones.
Stay safe.
Glad they're all OK physically. The shakes will stop eventually as well.
Just, glad Steve's ok. Lot's of friends out there today. lot's tomorrow. This shallow early season snow sure isn't worth dying for, so I'll be playing it safe tomorrow. Brighton's opening after all.
Hope he's OK. Major props to Jason West. way to come through in the most important time.
scary shits,...but in the end its better than bad.
++++++vibes++++++
Craziness. Positive vibes to everyone involved +++++. Keeping you in my thoughts today.
Be careful out there everyone!
Glad everyone is OK thus far.
Anybody heard from Xover yet?
Since the mountain didn't get him...I'm gonna kick his arse!!! Heed the warnings my friend and future father!!!
Lloyd is one of my best pal e O's and West too. We just celebrated a great 30th for West and this goes to show that it is way too early to be out risking when it is not necessary. Props to the crew for being prepared.
+++++++++++++++++++VIBES++++++++++++++++++++++
and love for my brotha Steve
a friend from work called me while i was out on a break and left a message after seeing the news because she thought it might be someone i know. And i may not know steve as well as AC, or others, but holy crap am i glad to hear he's gonna be ok! +vibes+ out to steve, j west, xover, and families
Damn!
What was Xover doing in the BCC any ways? he hates that canyon...
++++ to all!
Thankfully all are well. Be safe out there...........
Holy shit, that's wierd. I was just looking at the latest BackCountry catalog tonight and was noticing some pics taken by Steve Lloyd, then I read this. I don't know him but I'm glad to hear he appears to be okay. Be careful out there!
Saw this shit on the news when i came down from LCC...
Really glad everyone is alright...
Stay safe everyone.
Glad to hear everyone is OK.
Wow - wasn't expecting to see that kind of news when I logged on tonight. Glad all are OK.
After driving to SLC around 5pm and hearing on KSL that it was Steve (they had an interview with Jason) I figured Xover was likely with them. Called him but didn't get an answer and figured he either was screening my calls again or he was in the thick of it.
C'mon guys, listen to the voice inside.
Sure glad I didn't lose a friend to the mountains today. Stoked you're all ok.
phew, wow, please be safe, maggots!
Very glad to hear everyone's okay!
Saw a short interview with Steve this morning on KUTV. He looked pretty good for being buried under 4 feet of snow yesterday! HUGE props to Xover and Jason for a perfectly executed rescue. The preliminary report said the slope slid while they were climbing back up to the ridge.

Whew. I hate reading threads like this. +vibes+ to the families of those involved.
Call me a pussy, but this sure makes me reconsider how much time I will spend in the BC. No matter how knowledgeable you are, there is always a tremendous risk. I would hate to widow my wife and kids, just because I lust for a BC whiteroom.
Glad to hear everyone's ok. Looking at the bright side of this, I think that the news report was good. The general public needs to know that carrying all the right gear WILL save your life. The news reported that they were experienced and prepared. The decision making process is another story. Good job guys, you took a risk and knew what to do when the risk caught up with ya.
Props to these guy's for being well trained and well equiped, and for being honest about any mistakes made.
bc jong here, but being honest about your training, experience and picking partners you trust, is everything.
Glad everyone is all right.
Gives me a pit in my stomache. Glad all are ok.
The thing that I get out of this thread is how the people invloved admit to ignoring warning/danger signs and then get props for executing the perfect rescue.
Not pointing fingers or trying to start shit at all. Please don't take it that way.
Be safe all.
News said winds were nuking at over 100 MPH+ on the ridgetops with the last storm. That's some serious windloading. Glad Steve and the crew are all ok.
I'm glad such a terrible situation ended with the best possible result. Kudos to to Mr. West and Xover.
Practice Practice Practice
Heed the red flags.
Glad everyone is okay. Poor Jason looked pretty wired when being interviewed espeically after that guy stuck the mic into his face.
Beacon practice tomorrow is a DEFINITE.
Glad to hear everyone is OK. X I know that you've taken the classes and pricticed the stuff a lot, but man we want to keep you around. Stop scaring us and start slowing down a little. Good job on saving Steve guys.
Good job on the rescue fellas! Glad everyone is ok. Safety First.
