I was thinking the same thing when I saw it on channel 4. From everything I saw, I did not think I was looking at an avalance, just a minor sluff / slab slide.Quote:

What I saw of this old event was slough-like, but the snowpack continues to evolve, and I haven't been in it for a week. The Sierra Avalanche Center continues to up the avy risk each day. Currently:
Does anyone with feet on the snow agree with this observation?Quote:
Avalanche activity today is expected to occur within the storm snow. Expect to find sensitive wind slabs high in avalanche start zones below ridgelines. Expect significant sluff activity in steep protected areas. Avalanche activity is expected to be more widespread today than yesterday.
Near and above treeline, avalanche danger is HIGH on wind loaded NW-NE-SE aspects 33 degrees and steeper. Below treeline, avalanche danger is MODERATE with pockets of CONSIDERABLE in open areas 35 degrees and steeper where sluff activity is expected.
I was working down off monitor pass yesterday and with the light snow sitting on top of some pretty beat down sun/wind layers, I'd certainly believe it. I was kicking off little slabs on xc skis traversing accross some pretty minor little slopes. Not a whole lot of bonding on the downwind sides where the accumulation was.Quote:

Heard from the KW patrol that they pulled 18 passes/lift tickets on (edit to Wednesday) for skiers going OB.
The temptation sure was high.
hmmm, KW kept boundary closed, but did expedition tours (edit Tues)/(edit Wed). Bloodsweat - try to stay calm now. :)
:yourock: :yourock: :yourock:
Fuck, don't start that one up again. Although, that's some bullllllllll shit. But I can see their point of view too, if the expedition folks are with the guides, than KW doesn't have to worry rather they are dumbasses or not.Quote:

We need to make a huge banner in protest of this Snocat/Expedition bullshit. Or at least let the Forest Service know that "are public land rights are being violated." We were there last Wed....bluebird day....no people....calm between storms....and they shut us out. A friend of a friend that knows the head guy that does the AVY work on HWY 88, said they throw CASES of dynamite up on the spur and surrounding area. Patrol at KW throw STICKS. The day in question, FIVE massive bombholes sat on the Spur as we drove in....with no signs of movement. Sure, there's still always a risk even with bombing, but the slope looked like untracked swiss cheese. RANT OVER.
Tyrone - how the f*#k would I know or care that AKA, Brooks, and any other alias being used was drunk when he/she posted?? If this is the case, it looks like the majority of posts made by AKA, Brooks, et.al. recently have been made while he was drunk. Maybe AKA should hit Betty Ford or at least get a job...Quote:

Vets -
I skied right off the point where those dudes are standing yesterday afternoon. I couldn't believe no one had hit that sweet and steep line. Really deep and steep pow. In fact it felt like Alaska, for like, 6 turns! I even took a group of kids ranging from 7 to 12 down it after me. No avys reported.
Were you sporting Bros yesterday, Vets? I thought I saw a pair in the Grandview lift line.
So right at the bottom of that line you slog skiers left and walk out. Did you go up to the chute, or around to the traverse? We broke a skin path on Saturday, was a path cut still there?
We took the higher traverse out of there which led us to the little cliff section, which seemed especially little this year. The normal bouldery appearance was long since buried in the March magic. We hit it, bashed it, bombed it and side slipped it (yes, all of the above). And then followed the tract out the rest of the way to Castle. With our mixed group the entire run took an hour! Thanks for putting in the tract, it looked like some hard work after those storms. It's a bitch when you have to walk a downhill traverse, but usually worth it.Quote:
