I PM'd nutcase and it seems to be a tentative plan. Fill me in if you guys are interested in learning how we rip it down in Oregon.
you should make your way up there for sure...Quote:

There will be plenty.
yeeeeeeeeeearrrrggg. Not too bad!!!
Xtal magnions, stick to north-facing stuff, it's goooooooooood. South and West facing stuff not so much, crunchy crust layer underneath that can be fairly jarring and inconsistent.
Did Alpental even open today? I heard something about avalanche closures of I-90, meaning patrol couldn't even get up to do AC work. That true?
What's the word on a Xstal meetup tomorrow?
Location/time/etc?
I'd be down to drive up from PDX for it...
Well, we could do what was done this morning - rally at the Tacoma CostCo (it's right off of I-5) @ 0615. Only thing to consider is that iggyskier and I are pretty beat from today; hopefully we'll be able to hang with the skiing dynamo that is FUBAR, but I don't know how long I'll last...so I may hang it up early, like 1pm. Might be better for you to meet up with Nutcase and ride with him, or drive up to the mtn yourself...I'm sure Buster, Fubar, and ChainsawWillie will still be down for skiing later through the day.
that said, a meet on the mountain at a certain chair/time (preferably early, not "10am at this lift!!!"), rally by radio, phone, etc. I don't care which.
Fuck it, I'm going to go have a beer. Or two. Or three...
ptavv, get your ass to mahs! get up here!
If the Costco meetup is the order of the day, that's certainly do-able for me. If you guys would prefer to meet on the mountain or whatever that's fine too.
I've only been to Xstal once a long time ago, so I don't really remember much of anything.
I'm down for tomorrow. Went stairclimbing at the park with my dog today to get the heart beating and lungs working again, still feeling a bit weak so probably won't be up for a full day of schralping but at least i'm not snorkeling thick green snot any more. I'll be pulling into the parking lot about 8 and in line at the lift by 8:30.
I have a radio now too. Is the maggot channel 5-13?
I don't have a radio :(
ptavv,
What time will you be arriving? I'm easy to spot, look for the fool in the old gray jacket, Mojo 90 skis (one red, one blue) and floppy brown felt aussie-style cowboy hat - if I remember it! Otherwise it'll be a gray camo beanie.

xtal was off the hook deep today!!!
Basically just hung out on chair six, which kept going in and out of blizzard conditions all day.
see ya tomorrow.
I don't know. I'm actually having second thoughts about it. I just realized I have a paper that's unwritten but due on Monday afternoon (I skipped class Friday and just found out about the assignment).
So I may have to bail completely... sorry guys, another storm.
Very deep.
Quite unstable.

Most likely they will open South Back and we can ski Silver Basin. Or we can go North... so much goodness so little time.
I'm moving. I hate moving. Aggregation, sorting, boxing, lifting, setting, loading, unloading. Plus a bonfire to burn the requisite blackberries and slash. I choked out the valley with smoke and lifted my thoughts up to y00se k00ks, where I knew it'd be g0000000d.
Passing through clothes, I came upon a Raging Maggots t-shirt from 1988. They were a l00ny band, I'll post a pict. But all the little touchstone stuff that you pass through in the course of all that. blablahblah...
I don't think I can do tomorrow either, too much to do, especially if I can pull off a Tuesday or Wednesday instead.
bomber called and honked me about today. It sounded really freaking awesome. A facefull. w00t acheived.
shhhhhhhh...that's a secretQuote:

pussy...
come on. I-5 drunk cant be THAT bad.
if you want i can PM you some cell numbers.
or if you have a radio go to freq 5-13.
well, i just woke up, and i figure it's probably a good idea i didn't drive up there, or try to function on a ski mountain
sorry guys, i'll do it another time
no sweat man- I ended up being a pussy today also. I'm sure they are having an awesome time up there today. Looks like north back might have opened. Kind of upset at myself right now about it but whatever. I think im going to hit Crystal tomorrow tho so if you got tomorrow off it looks to be awesome once again!Quote:

Yep Northbakistan opened, and I was there when the rope was dropped. Had 2 epic runs of face shots, only tempered by the suck that was I-5 (there were conflicting signs about the status of the NB shuttle bus, and I don't think walking all the way back up that road in ski boots is my idea of a good time). Campbell Basin was pretty fuckin good as well, only damper for me was that I'm just exhausted from yesterday...
anyway, as I've said, what would T Cartwright do? Ski and love every possible minute of it. So I dragged my tired carcass out of bed this morning, and got myself eastbound on 512 again...
Doesn't look like it's going to let up for a while!

A few members of the Monique community are probably pretty tired of my whining about being stuck in the tropics while all this is going on. That said: WAAAAAAAA!!!!:cussing:
Whew! Got that out of my system for another ten minutes. Those of you lucky enough to be within reach, GO!
Go...catch a wave or something!Quote:

Anyone going to be at xtal tomorrow?
Umm...
I was wearing a grey jacket, yellow pants. Mantras/Freerides/Adrenalines.
Helmet has a skull and lightning bolt steal your face on the back.
Today was great too. I went after north facing slopes in the morning and found lots of untracked due to the wind deposit and new snow.
It was amazing how the mildly tracked up was still super deep and soft and buttery smooth. Or at times so cold smokelike I was inhaling clouds of powder in my mouth as I was smiling.
They opened northback and it was DEEP!!! Everything is filled in. Even lower northway.
I left at about 1:30. Had to get back to PDX to get ready for work tomorrow.
See you next weekend.
Or not.....
Next week I'll have my digi camera.
I know it may be sacriledge, but Sunday on the mountain could be great, and empty, with the super bowl and all.
WOOOOOOOT!!!!!!
fubar - you're too much, man.
Mad props to you for showing me & Jumper where to find the goods in Northbakistan. That was totally off the hook. I am so psyched to do that again ASAP!!!
You guys that, well, had other ideas about how to spend your day - you missed out. Seriously. Waist deep at least in many places, face shots on almost every turn. The I-5 shuffle was rendered almost enjoyable by the trip down to it. Sorry to have missed you.
Anyone who can get to Xtal tomorrow, do it! It is absolutely nuking, puking, and zooking up there right now and probably will be all night. I swear, 2 inches of really light fluff fell on my car while I was loading it up. Unimaginable deepness awaits.
me me me!! Looks like I may be doing a solo powder missionQuote:
