if they give you an error message (i.e. browser not supported or some other such), try the user agent switcher and try identifying your browser as IE6. its amazing how often a developer will go to the trouble of identifying and blocking firefox when their site works tolerably well with it.

also, as someone pointed out elsewhere, identifying yourself as googlebot can sometimes get you past mandatory registration (like for news sites).

i like the firefix features but it really is slow. is there any reason why having several tabs open would be slower than having several pages open? i have 4 tabs open right now and can notice a substantial delay in seeing this text as i type it. i was using safari before and it was way faster.

Due to User History caching, I believe : the last 25 sites per tab are fully cached, IIRC.

That is correct. You can also turn this "feature" off by setting browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers to "0" in about:config.
