Sorry for the double post, rules.
fuck it bro just find some conveniently located roadside fs land and put some barbed wire up with official looking notices claiming its actually your land and you'll have your own private parking lot. come to find out, the fs is cool with that shit.
Have you checked with the Summit to see if you have to pay on days that the lifts aren’t spinning?Quote:

Sometimes at the end of the year if it’s gone ok and I have a little xtra I spread it around to the nwac. Appreciate the effort made to keep the roads open and the weather stations functioning. These real estate tycoons taking over feels like a kick in the nuts sometimes given they’ve got a lot more than me.
Pretty much everytime I go to Muir.
It was not clear when I replied. If you are going to quote-reply my post, let's be accurate. Nowhere in your posts above mine did you mention "off peak Wednesdays" when you were complaining about a private company making their own business decisions. /End semantics
Your main question seemed to be, can a private company charge for use of their private parking lot. The answer is "yes, they can do whatever they want with respect to parking use and fees." I'm happy we figured that out.
Bigger picture, having grown up skiing at the Pass my whole life, I dislike the overcrowding and more draconian policies The Summit has established lately, but they are trying. I have a feeling when you want to tour on 1/4" of breakable freezing rain crust on 6:45am on Thursday and you park at the far Summit West lot, no one will ticket you.
I90, 2, 410, 542, all public roads maintained and plowed by $ from gas and vehicle licenses. But yeah Joe goldigger staked a claim 150 yrs ago so gimme $55.
Tax dollars plow the streets where I live too, yet there are very few places to park for free.
I’ve been buying ski passes and snowpark passes and national park passes and state park passes, multiple per year for decades. I’ve got skins in the game.
Sucker, I got me a free lifetime America the Beautiful pass

Yeah my mom just got that. So did my dad but he can’t use it due to back issues. What’s the joke, old patrollers don’t die they just…
Joe Golddigger bought a parcel of land and developed/maintains parking facilities. Joe can charge what he wants for the facilities. Just like anybody else with a business on private land near a public road.
You just need to quit whining because Joe is no longer letting you use his private property for free, to the detriment of his paying customers.
But you’ve given me a great idea. I’m going up to Timberline Lodge this winter and demand a free room. I mean the lodge was built with government (WPA/CCC) money and the public access road is 99% for the benefit of the Lodge.
Who’s up for a maggot summit?
Well at timberline I’d pay for the snowpark pass just like here. I wouldn’t expect a free room anymore than I’d expect a free lift ticket. But thanks for making my point.
And come to think of it why am I paying for a forest service pass to park in the Alpental lot in the summer to go hike to snow lake? Shouldn’t I be paying the landowner? Now I’m really confused.
Yes you are confused - your beef should with the State of WA for not providing sufficient public trailhead parking, not with the resort for limiting parking to paying customers.
Jeez what's with all the Parking Pointdexters
"Welllll actualllly...."
Is hitchhiking to ski still a thing? Use to be a good way to avoid parking and driving. A nug or tallboy was the fee. Maybe inflation has hit that too.
All my buds that grew up living in the Ranch, hitched up to Bogus everyday.
Use to be a thing in Aspen. They even have a thumbing station downtown. Haven't seen anyone using it in years.
Parking at the Summit ski areas has been a big issue for the past 5 years.
If anyone can offer up a better idea to address the parking situation, i am all ears... and Summit isnt making big bucks off this parking situation, so im sure they would listen too.
Last BBI i went to — was it twenty-eighteen? [fucking IOS!] they had started limiting parking access to lot four [fucking IOS!]…i was lucky to pose hard enough as i rolled by them to not get stopped. I imagine that’s not possible anymore
Down where i am, no pay to park yet, we still just live with the race to the lot — earlier & earlier…
This is the post we needed…Quote:
