Came home from vacation to find a bunch of feathers and a bird skull in our back yard. Anyone know what orange and black birds come through Tahoe? I don’t remember seeing any.

Skull was around the size a Steller’s Jay, maybe.
Edit: looks like probably a Bullock’s Oriole.

PSA for all the Sugar Bowl skiers, the speed limit when you get off 80 until you are out of town is 25 mph now. Going to be a lot of 20+ over tickets on that road the way people drive it. I didn’t notice it until driving back through town.

The speed limit has been 25 for as long as I can remember. I've never seen a cop there in the hundreds of times I've driven past.

Hmm, my memory was 35. Two full timers in Soda Springs said there was a big push to lower the speed limit to 25 and that many people at the public meeting requested the sheriff to have a cop posts on weekend mornings. But I’m just repeating the local gossip.Quote:

I think the law says that the speed limits should be based off surveys, meaning you can also raise a speed limit based on surveys unless there is a good reason not to like a ton of accidents in the area. Somehow there always seems to be a “good” reason though to be fair speed limits have risen on highways over the last few decades.Quote:

Given the forecast for the coming week, if you’re looking for some non-skiing activities, Reno born author Willy Vlautin will be reading and singing/playing guitar down the hill next weekend at two events.
Vlautin is one of my favorite authors and his debut novel, Motel Life takes place in/around Reno and is a bittersweet masterpiece.
I have bequeathed copies of his books to a few Mags over the years (Corky, TheFrush, and a few others); all have become fans and read some of his other works.
highly recommend checking him out if you can; if not at these events, grab one of his books and give it a read. I recommend The Motel Life, though The Free is probably my favorite of his that I have read.

I think I sold a half dozen pair of ski boots today - new Scarpa TX Pro has a lot of interest
I’ve been going to that ski swap since 2009 or 2010, there’s always a long line. Scored pretty well: three lightly used pairs of smaller all mtn skis for some teens and a lightly used shell for another teen. All for very good prices. Saw “Walter Sobchak,” who was volunteering.
Looking for a used pair of xc skis with nnn-bc binding for one of my kids. Mainly just want the bindings. The kids 160cm tall and ~105#. For tromping around in the woods (not for the groomed track). I can’t get to the Tahoe XC swap next Saturday.

Unofficially Rose is opening the Lakeview lift serving KC Bowl and Ponderosa on Friday Nov 8th. They have not announced it yet but if you look at ticket sales, you can now buy tickets for all dates from November 8. Previously it was set for the 27th.
