I know paycheck guys that work for a mostly local civil/utility excavator that primarily drive dumps and haul equipment that make $45/hr. with overtime available, pretty good benefits.

It's weird, the OTR guys seem to get shit but the more specialty trucking and operating jobs seem to pay pretty well. Now you start owning your own iron and hustling a bit and there is tons of opportunity. I constraint on that around here is that all of sudden commercial and industrial property got really expensive and scarce.

Which is probably inline with plumbers, electricians etc. with similar years of experience. Put not as much as window washers. Those guys start at $50 but it's seasonal, no benefits.

I'm a little more familiar with the 1099 world i.e. what I charge and what I pay. But that different. Gotta have some capital and a reputation to play that game.

Colville was already suggested. Sandpoint / CDA are another good landing spot. 2.5ish hrs to Red, Whitewater, Kimberly, Fernie, Whitefish. Come up to Fernie and I got a bed for ya.

I just bailed on a slc move, my buyer didn’t come up with their loan. But I was never a fan of slc, but I thought of housing, business. Plan 2, will be mtn high somewhere, medium size resort, no vail bs.

Flagstaff, maybe, or Sedona, cause my mom’s near. Good hikes on backside, side country, then t ride and Utah a few times per yr.

Agree. One night a week at Big Sky (two days of skiing) is enough for me. I enjoy the resort town party atmosphere for a night but am happy to GTFO and back to a real town.

Not anymore. Housing prices are through the freaking roof, MDU’s popping up like crazy, planning commission can fuck themselves for that. Traffic is a shit show. All the douchebag assholes from the coastlines seem to be moving here.

Also being an older guy I remember when we used to be able to have a discussion about Federal rights versus State rides or other Republican versus Democrat, conservative versus progressive viewpoints. Now I swear, I talk to some of these folks and they’re like waiting for a Civil War. It’s they don’t seem to be able to disagree.
OK, this actually isn’t that hard. Find a small, (no college, ski lifts), town with mountains nearby, and check it out. Go a on a road trip. Oh yeah, climb to ski.

Why no college? You'll at least have a few decent watering holes and some live music. Maybe even a little diversity. I stopped in Pocatello this past weekend on the way to Driggs and had a great lunch in a small brewery that let us bring our dog inside. Idaho State kids were starting to trickle in. Nice little downtown.

After spending the summer up in N. Idaho I'm not so sure. There's no shortage of a-holes up in Idaho and Montana. Seriously, I couldn't believe how angry so many people were. I saw so many road rage escalations etc., it was wild. There were WAY more good people then that though but still, it was weird.
