So if I have my ikon base Black Plus and a parking pass at snowbird can I ski the cirque to the high T and use my ikon pass at alta to get home to my Mormon wives before 5pm?

Why is there a scan gate between the resorts?
Every base lift has a scanner.
Let people cross to get where they want to end their day.
Simple. This is a case of the majority ruining it for the minority. For every educated person using the gate as you describe, there'd be 20 jerrys ending up in locations where they need to take a lift to get back and don't have a pass at that resort, inevitably creating a mess.
Yes. Morons. And Tourons.
But it could be like a backcountry gate. With big warning signs. You are leaving the resort.
Say you have ikon. Ski Alta. Want to end up at the bird to hang with friends. Doesn’t make sense to burn a bird day just to gravity down the other side of the ridge.
Morons and tourons… Jesus dude, the only gate to be scanned at is in Mineral. If you want to ski Alta and end up at Snowbird it isn’t rocket surgery.
In case there's any SW ridge scramblers in here.

How do locals feel about the 16 towers going up on Superior?
I have a FB frond that's clearly very upset about em so I'm curious what others are thinking.
I don’t care. It’s something that’s necessary for winter access in LCC given that WW2 ammo is no longer available for avalanche migration. And I enjoy skiing in LCC.
The visual impact to the ridgeline is unfortunate, but necessary. There have been Gazex units up to there for years, but if you weren't looking for them you didn't see them. The Wyssens are going to be a lot more visible.
I don't have any personal skin in the game, but the few friends (and friends-of-friends) of mine who help with the howitzer are generally happy so that makes me think it is worth the visual impact.
The comments on UDOTcc's Instagram post are wild.

"Just buy another Howitzer. Simple"
"We need lawyers"
"Where am I going to train this summer?"
"Are the construction workers going to chase me down and arrest me?"
"There's already a road that goes around the slide path"
The sense of entitlement is staggering. I'm sure the same people were shitting themselves in rage this winter over the closures.
But what are all the S ridge lovers gonna do this summer? Clearly there are no other scrambles in the area that are already a Strava segment, how will they spray??
Driving down from Brighton yesterday I was reminded that we had entered the oh so pleasurable canyon construction season. Alternating traffic on the bridge below Storm Mountain was really slowing things down but this dude really didn't help:

Right below the powerplant. No idea how he managed to roll himself, the road isn't perfectly straight but those aren't exactly high-speed sharp curves. Strong effort!
When did pio buy a Ford?
My guess would be drifted into the shoulder (likely due to phone use) and overcorrected. I suppose we should just be glad he didn't kill anyone in the process.
Better sort this shit out before I get there.
It looks like Solitude will require separate parking passes for nordic & alpine whereas last season a single Solitude parking pass worked for both. Does anyone know for sure if that's the case?
As far as I understand, yes. It's not clear on the website that the regular parking pass is not valid in nordic lot, but I think they said that in the town hall.
Also, the email for renewing Solitude parking says previous parking pass holders are getting a discount from $1000 to $499. Their website still says $499 for full parking pass. So unsure which one is right...
Yeah, it's now two separate passes one for downhill and one for nordic according to parksolitude email response.
Hijacking this thread for a semi-appropriate post: if there's anyone in here who routinely drives up the canyon on bald summer tires and fucks it up for the rest of us, I will hook you up with a mag-priced set of gently used Michelin X-Ice snow tires. They're 215/65R17 (2016 Forester and such), bit narrower and taller than stock for max snow grip.
Don't be a beater, get real tires.
FWD with snow tires > AWD with worn all seasons
Funny, that's what I just replaced the Forester with since I'm now commuting a fair bit and electric made more sense than another ICE. Scored a 2nd set of OEM wheels on KSL, will put snow tires on and report back. Clearance is definitely a concern but the days of gunning it into an unplowed White Pine lot at 4am are behind us so I can probably live with less clearance. Regenerating 4-5% battery while not touching the brakes down LCC is quite a trip as well.
My Waterloo with 8-inches of AWD ground clearance and snow tires is the upper second Spruces lot when it hasn't been plowed.
ive been rocking the civic with nokian for past 4 years and while its done admirably awd and clearance would be nice. Except for the spending 30-50k part
placeholder post for snowbasin fuckery due to 2034 olympics.
sounds awesome!! You'd hope some other runs off jp would be open if they have the course shut down. Maybe the new lift up no name (i'm making this up) will be in by then.
Need a like a 3 house co-op for the olympics because I actually want to be here. 2 families rent the houses out, rest move in with the third, profits split 3 ways.
Also this is the default bitching / very off topic thread despite it not being in the thread title right?
I already have lifelong ski buddy from HS that is planning to be here for a bit with some of his family. I’m gonna make him pay rent.
Looks like UDOT won't be taking over the ski bus yet. Service appears to be the same shitty reduced level it's been the last two seasons, with maybe some surge service during the busiest periods.

UTA mentioned that they have two contractors that are going to provide service along Fort Union and during surge periods. They did talk at length about how difficult it is to staff the canyon's without impacting their regular or as they call it baseline operations. Staffing is good but they lost drivers when they had to have drivers work excessive overtime, sometimes mandated. UTA has added a large number of vans for the resorts to move employees that has opened seats for skiers, I don't remember the number but it was significant. Someone from UDOT talked very briefly about tolling and was adamant that tolling would be used to discourage driving. Mike Maughan talked briefly, 5% of their customers take public transportation, this number has been stable, he said many years ago it was as high as 8% but that is the most it ever was. He said he doesn't think tolling, which Alta is opposed to, will have much impact on reducing traffic. He used the example of Alta charging $25 for parking, did not reduce traffic. Did result in more car pooling but as he said they could easily sell more spots if they had them. He talked about people having to stand on the bus carrying their equipment and not having a place to put their gear when they arrive. Having lockers available when the gondola or enhanced bus service happens will be important. Someone else talked about needing legislative action to fix the traction law. The suggestion is that they make the traction law date based, not when weather requires it, such as November 1st - May 1st.
