I still remember vividly the time Casey took me skiing at La Parva on a powder day almost 10 years ago! So epic! Linking LP with VN will be a huge amount of terrain.
Glad you guys are getting some snow to open up!

The new 'Three Valleys'
Not sure if it's old news, came up on my feed today
https://www.snow-forecast.com/whiter...gest-ski-area/
This is still fresh news, mentioned earlier. With Andacor (El Colorado) against the ropes, MCP may go for it next, to complete the trio.
Cautious optimism would be in order, but pricing and operational agility remain to be seen.
In other news, a new front is appearing on the 8 day radar.
This movie was filmed in the "northern patagonia", released last year, and has rad lines mainly around Bariloche, and nearby areas in Chile. Quite the blast...

Although a bit outdated in some of the posts, the mountains haven´t changed much.
So May is shaping up to be record breaking in the central zone

Checking in on the time lapse yesterday, I spotted a pair walking up, then down, and skiing from a point just below the rime section. I think a combo of recent eruptions and a slathering of moisture and wind have made the skiing not so great. This screen shot has them down to the right.

Osorno is run by Andacor, which also has the concession for Pillan (on V Villarrica), and El Colorado/Farellones. Their prospects were in trouble a few months ago, not sure they have found new financing or are negotiating with MCP.
Alerts have been raised for the central zone Andes, where somewhere around a meter of snow is expected. Guess the front will get stuck up on the massive peaks of the continental divide

Casey what's your favorite spot to ski?If you had a 3 month tourist visa and wanted to kill it what would you do? Thx!
Guess you can’t do what I did. Which was ski bum becomes El Colorado ski teacher and skis on a shoestring from June to Sept, winding up in Ushuaia, eventually.
These days, but or rent a car/van and go where the snow blows. If the season is good in the 3 Valleys, that would be the place to lift ski, in what is the biggest ski area in the Southern Hemisphere. So a month there would be good.
Personally I like La Parva as a base, for the variety and having 4 chairs to ski. Also good back bowl access for touring and hiking. Take a month in the 3 Valleys, and Include some side tours for Portillo, Cajon del Maipo, and maybe Arpa or Heliski.
Do a month in the rest of the south of Chile, then do a month in Argentina. Probably best to leave the south of Chile for the last month, and do Argentina before the snow line rises. Right now, for example, would be a good time to go.
If June continues to be snowy, it is a great month to ski. The ski areas are slow to fully open, but there are few people and the snow is usually colder and fluffier than August. School holidays start June 22 this year, to July 7. Avoid the ski areas then.
Plausible?
Nice. Yeah I always dream of coming down but probably not this year. One year older
After

Still dumping in Portillo

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8e4ccdee30.jpg
La Parva is rumored to be opening June 1, not sure Valle Nevado.
So if progress means a ski area opens when there is enough snow and closes when there isn’t, the 3 Valleys have regressed.
In 1986, another early season, La Parva opened early May, the day after a big dump, and I skied knee deep that month. Opening early was not so unusual, and neither was staying open in October. Maybe if there are more consistent snowfalls in the future, they will gear up early and be prepared. Financial difficulties, the plague, low snow and late years means no staff until there is snow now.
What a day for a day dream.
Although the warnings were ominous,
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...803eaf8eef.jpg
And there were people putting chains on before the first (of 40) switchbacks.
But I made it to La Parva with no chains, and no hurry. Lots of time to take photos.
