Is there a troller thread around here?
Throwing charges may be bad for your mental health. Pentagon seems to have wounded soldiers, injured by shockwaves from their artillery pieces. No treatment or prevention strategies, and diagnosis via autopsy. May be a subject to follow.

On the knee issues, I am trying to be kinder to my knees as I get up there in years. For the most part this means going narrower for pow skis. For daily drivers, 100 underfoot is my sweet spot and pretty much has been since my first pair of Line Motherships. Last year I picked up a pow ski at 106 underfoot and found that I really only need those on the really deep days. Even then the snow had better be lighter than average.
Each summer I am on a quest to rehab my ski season damage through biking. My goal this summer and fall has been 100 miles per week. I will state the unpopular opinion here that an e-bike is practically the perfect tool for that rehab. Hate on it all you want but you can dial in exactly the amount of assistance that lets you push without over torquing things. By this time of the year, I'm using very few electrons. I could do that on a spin bike indoors too but that is boring.
In San Francisco Dr Akizuki (also the team ortho for the SF Giants) did my wife's knee in February of this year after someone hit her on her first day out at SV in December. He was great and covered under Cigna if that matters. Lisa Paradiso in San Rafael was recommended by him for PT and she is also great.
Just following up now baseball season is over he's much easier to get in, he's at every Giants home game. Last December we were able to get in the same week and he called multiple times right after the sugery.
Totally forgot about Dr A. Thought he only did arms. He’s done a few of my friend’s shoulders and they all had good things to say about him. Thx
I’m a 65 year old male skier who averages 150 days a year on skis and 350 on bikes.
Dr. Raymond Kim performed TKR 10/12/23 at the Steadman Clinic in Basalt Colorado. So far the total cost is a little closer to $100,000.
I started riding a Class 3 Ebike with a throttle, seven days post op. There are a couple of real steep pitches near my house and the throttle helps me keep from over stressing my knee. Mentality and physicality, the ebike has really helped my recovery.
I’m hoping to be skiing by Christmas and hitting 100 days this year.
You should be fine by Christmas. I was able to get mine and keep my monthly streak going (with a 1,000 mile drive)

Totally cherry picking here...but the morning GFS finally starts showing some salvation. This would kick start the season. The next run was not as optimistic, but it is nice to see the models starting to hint at a change...

Question for the locals. I’m supposed to go to heavenly for my bday nov 27-5. Everything right now isn’t looking good weather wise. Are you guys hearing more positive things? I believe they stopped pumping snow again because of the heat.
Too early to tell.
Nothing great for natural in the 10 day forecast.
Cold enough nights to blow, but over freezing during days...
It could all change with one good AR + cold temps.
Mt.Rose looking nice and socked in. Maybe they will make the Nov 9 opening.Attachment 475195

Now that TahoeJ has gotten the being a dick thing out of the way, I always get a laugh from out-of-towers asking the locals about future weather. Like we have some shamanistic insight to whether or not it’s gonna snow in Tahoe on a certain date.
We use the same weather apps as everybody else!
Also, weather forecasts are just that: a prediction, albeit one based on studies and data, but a prediction nonetheless.
The frickin’ forecast has changed more than a dozen times since Thursday, so asking about conditions 3 weeks in the future?
Heckacali said it best: “too early to tell.”
That said, Thanksgiving skiing in Tahoe is usually pretty sparse.
You’d probably be better off going to CO at this point seeing as they are already spinning lifts at at least 4 resorts…
:D
My first day of the season is always fun!
(Unless I wreck my knee)
so this was new. and wtf?? (note the sign is not facing me)

At least the skiing was good (ymmv). Eventually another trapped soul showed up and he had a 12' winch/tree strap that we used to yank the gate open via my front tow hook.

Sorry should have included her surgery was ACL, total tear but no other damage. He also put a leash in which he said he does with all athletes and people who are going to ski, play baseball or any other lateral sports. My wife is a total intermediate (accident happened on Ramp Run back to Gold Coast so nothing crazy) and he still put the leash in just to be safe. Supposed to help prevent total tears again.
Thx. Havent heard of a leash and google wasn’t much help
One decent storm can drop 3-6 feet in a couple days and open a whole resort (Kirkwood). Heavenly, though, is behind the crest and gets less snow from most storms. However they have a good snowmaking system, so maybe. Palisades and Sugar Bowl also catch a lot of natural snow. Tahoe Thanksgiving is tricky but can be a lot of fun (usually low angle if open). Christmas is a safer bet, and doesn't always deliver either. If you come, Mt Rose is coldest and will retain more of anything they get or make, or watch the reports to see who has runs open. I'm with Dookie - bail to CO or maybe MT. For November skiing, CO resorts are much better at making snow, and cold enough that it doesn't melt.
I believe Rose is set to open on the 9th, but we shall see.
Here's an article for UCL repair (complete with graphic photos) but same idea I believe. Dr A said it will limit the motion before another complete tear....or that is the idea.

As in November 9, two days from now?
The folks they hire on the 8th aren’t gonna receive much training…

OnTheSnow is saying 11/10…
https://www.onthesnow.com/lake-tahoe/projected-openings
I question their dates, though. They list DSR as opening on 11/11, but if you go to the DSR website they are still promoting disc golf…
The Reno Gazette Journal reports slightly different dates:
https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2023/...g/71038802007/
Then again, they include Mammoth as a Tahoe resort…
Silly Goat, all skis are rock skis.
:D
Maybe they just changed it, but right now it says Rose opens the 9th
Quote:
Tahoe ski resorts anticipated opening dates for 2023-24 ski season
Nov. 9: Mt Rose Ski Tahoe
Nov. 10: Mammoth Mountain
Nov. 17: Boreal Mountain, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort
Nov. 22: Palisades Tahoe
Nov. 24: Sugar Bowl Resort
A shot of a dusting of snow at Kirkwood Mountain Resort on Oct. 1.
Dec. 1: Kirkwood Mountain Resort
Dec. 2: Sierra at Tahoe
Dec. 7: Diamond Peak
That wasn't my source, fwiw. I asked the snowmaker when I skied there last week. It looks like they could open Northwest and Lakeview but a high speed 10pack seems like overkill for Carson Bowl
Another vote for Dr. A. When my son injured his shoulder playing baseball in high school he sought out two opinions. 1st guy looked at X ray and wanted to schedule surgery asap. Dr. A looked at same X ray said you don’t need surgery, just rehab. So he hooked my son up with a physical therapist, he did the required work and went on to play thru college and his shoulder is fine, even when he falls snowboarding:) Dr. A won’t do unnecessary medical interventions either, some guys just want to operate. But if you need surgery he’s among the best. He has two offices, one in SF and one further down the peninsula (San Jose?) if I remember correctly, my son saw him in his SF office.
El Niño is coming
