Bottom of Lower Pushover reveals the Wall of Ice™ designed to keep day 1 skiers out of the woods. Hiking around this fall I noticed ribbon marked woods along Pushover and Hot Shot>Slowpoke>First Time that they must be getting permitted for new glades.

Hey guys - quick advice question from a New England newb: are there any guide books for touring in Maine or the Whites that are must-haves? I’ve poked around on the web but figure y’all have may have some strong views on the topic. Thanks!

Goodman’s is the Bible, but kind of meh. Good to get an idea of what’s around.

But you might also get a mag to show you some goods!

If you are solo and don't want to deal with planning and avy stuff the granite backcountry alliance stuff is generally great but also generally skied out quickly.

That’s ‘Brave Ulysses’, my 15’ Eric Dow PeaPod. So nice and simple that it gets used all the time to touch the distant beaches…easily the boat I use the most.

Wonder if she was an experienced hiker. Depending on what trail she took up Lafayette, it can be pretty demanding, especially this time of year. Hope she's ok.

Sounds like she was fairly experienced summer hiker. They're saying she didn't have any lighting, much food, and was in sneakers. Hopefully she just blew town for whatever reason and is not lost on the hill.

Sunday in the Whites, especially if attempting Lafayette, wasn’t a hike. It was an expedition into the frozen abyss of the arctic. I fear for her safety and pray for her survival.

Agreed. Sunday above treeline would have required full winter preparation. From the brief description of her gear, exposure/hypothermia could have easily set in. :(
