Nicholas Cage should have played George McFly. He wouldn't even have to act
The trailer seems to be a bit heavy on hyperbolic pull-quotas and the base story sure seems a lot like Escape From New York crossed with a bit of Hell Comes To Frogtown, but the combo of Cage, Moseley, and director Sion Sono is enough to pique my attention...
In theaters middle of September.

Just rewatched Adaptation and I got to say that has got to be in the top five of his best films.
Leaving Las Vegas was heavy..
Favorite Cage line ever... "Put the bunny back in the box"..
I went and caught Prisoners of the Ghostland at the drive-in last night (only place it was screening within 200 miles of me). First time at a drive-in in over 30 years. I had the screen to myself, too (it was the 10:10 late show).
Giving the film a 2.5 out of 5
Would definitely be enhanced seeing it in an altered mindstate and with a large group of people.
I have only seen 2 other film by the director, Sion Sono, and he seems to be about style over substance, favoring a heightened stage set look that stresses artificiality and mock surrealism. In short, the film looks great, like a Broadway stage production soaked in meth and LSD; it's reliant on splashy production design and rich colors (Sono definitely has ripped pages from both the Argento and The Archers books).
The story cribs quite a bit of ideas from He'll Comes to Frogtown, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, and Escape From New York and there are some stunningly brilliant moments scattered throughout, but quite a bit of the acting is overly earnest and amateurish and the plot is a bit mushy.
I'd ruminate more, but I'm feeling lazy.
This review pretty much nails my thoughts, but in different vernacular:

Release Date April 22, 2022

I have seen that trailer 2x now in the theater and it just doesn't look as bonkers as it sounded on paper...
It also seems suspiciously similar to Guy Ritchie's latest, which was actually supposed to drop around the same time, but has been removed from the release schedule...
Also, will Cage playing a heightened version of himself be able to top Neil Patrick Harris in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle?

Nick Cage being really weird in new streaming flick, Kick Ass

I really liked that movie when it came out. Weird for sure

I took his order for a chicken something or other back in the 90s in park city. I worked at mountain chicken and white pine touring that summer.
Wearing really stupid but expensive outfits.

Well that's GQ.
I think it triggered my number one problem with cage. He’s a vapid self important son of talent, who thinks he’s talented.
Occasionally he does good work.
Raising Arizona is all time funny.
But mostly he’s boring. And can’t act.
So trying to read about all his struggles and goodness, being interrupted by pictures of his narcissistic expensive clothing kinda killed the vibe.
My theory:
The Nic Cage that we, the general public, have access to is all an act, thus making him the greatest actor of all time.
Nic Cage?
No, NICK CAVE...

That ^^^ was a fun watch.
So I follow the security guy into a small private room, adjacent to the main bar. Sitting there is Nicolas Cage. He is wearing a pork-pie hat and holding a didgeridoo.
Nice touch, the pork-pie hat! Plus, who doesn't love some Rippin' Didge?

The critical hype train is going mach 11...
100% on RT right now for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent:

[Full disclosure: I have not read any of these reviews as I prefer to go to a movie with the least amount of outside critical influence bouncing around in my brain]
Yet again. Nic Coppola plays himself.
But I’ll watch it. The trailer looks good.
Cage gets "real" on Reddit:

I finally got around to seeing Unbearable Weight a few nights ago. Watched it on DVD from the library. It was good, it was fun, it was good fun. Really enjoyed it, and also the special feature post-screening Q&A at SXSW 2022.
Also watched Bringing Out the Dead last night. I saw it when it first came out, and recall liking it, but man, is that one wild-ass ride! Scorsese/Schrader killing it (again), excellent performances all around. Cage is absofuckinlutely awesome! Buckle in and check it out!

I’m a Trekkie… I’m Not in the Star Wars Family
Whether or not Cage makes it onto the Enterprise remains to be seen. While not necessarily a franchise, Cage will be putting his own spin on Dracula when he stars as the iconic vampire in Universal’s upcoming action comedy “Renfield,” opening in theaters April 14.
I was all in until Awkwafina popped up.
I can’t stand her…
