The verdict is going to be out for awhile. A lot of solid advice given. At the moment holding off on pics. Sorry.

My aunt had a major gambling problem in her 50s/60s. Her husband is a partner at a big city law firm so they had some funds, which I understand she blew through in a pretty incredible manner. They are still together and she is a big-time player in Gamblers' Anonymous so it is possible, if she wants to stop.
One of the saddest things I ever see are the old ladies literally blowing everything they have on slots, whether that be in Vegas or wherever.
You have no choice but to draw a line in the sand. The rest is up to her.

I guess it's really only a problem if you're an ineffective gambler. It really seems like gambling would lose a lot of its luster when you start losing massive amounts of money. I guess the difference between a gambler and a problem gambler is the one without a problem is able to walk away.
I have been putting a few bucks into DraftKings for sports betting over DFF. Just cashed out a few hundred (thanks Tommy),. Left about 150 in there to play around with some BB and hockey. Think I am close to break even, but whatever I may be down was worth the entertainment this past year.
YOU WERE WITH HER AND ALL YOUR MONEY WENT BYE-BYE WITHOUT YOU KNOWING WHY, AND NOW YOU'RE SEPARATED AND TRYING TO HELP HER OUT. BRILLIANT.
Co-dependency is a thing.
at boarding school we would bet on nba 2k games on the playstation. most i ever put down was $20 because i knew i sucked but some of the hong kong and nyc kids would go big. one guy ran out of money and started betting his closet. lost a moncler parka worth a few grand and a pair of yeezys. kid he lost the moncler to wore that piece everyday all winter long.

Two of my roommates ran numbers in college. People would come in with all kinds of shit when they couldn’t pay.
Me and my other roommate usually got called into negotiations over the value of said shit, we had some real nice stereos and TV’s back then for pennies on the dollar.

Holy shit. Are you kidding? Is that the opinion for online gambling only?
What cures most people is running out of money and ending up losing things like cars and houses. But quitting is next to impossible for many gamblers. The reason I say your (Benny's) story doesn't hold water for me is that it is a well-known fact that casinos prey on elderly widows who are lonely. The casino provides plenty of ass kissers (called hosts) who make them feel wanted and like they have friends. Once the widow plays off all the insurance money and whatever other disposable income she has, they forget they even know her. Must be even colder on the internet. Where I'm going with this, OP, and you might not like it, is what shortcoming in her life is she making up for?
Over the next 20 years the casinos are going to suck the slot pullers dry as they die off and transition to skill based games. Gambling addiction will only grow.
I know plenty of people couldn’t care less about card games or slots but would loose a fortune playing Mariokart or Corn Hole in a casino setting.
Atleast you would have the opportunity to improve your luck with practice.

There's a fairly large subset of gambling addicts who (are unaware they) get a bigger rush when they lose. Sportsbook parlays, trifectas for the last race on the card, etc are designed to take advantage of this science.
A close friend of mine went through something similar, cleared bank accounts, constant stress, and promises to stop that never really happened. They finally sought out therapy and support groups like Gamblers Anonymous, but it was a long road. It really comes down to whether your spouse is willing to fight for recovery or not. If they’re serious about getting help, there may be hope.
If boredom is part of the problem, maybe suggest earning rewards through things like surveys or small online tasks instead. Sites like https://cashyeah.com/ let you make money online in a structured way without the risk of losing everything.
