I know some straight edge, mid 20s folks who are all in on this kind of stuff. They're chalking it up to being accepted as a sizable market being addressed finally. And, they're totally OK with stuff that tastes more like conventional food than rabbit food.

We buy the sausages when they're on sale and freeze them (as VT-freeheel says, they're kind of expensive). Put them in the fridge a day before we want them. It doesn't seem to hurt them any.

We get a case for our store every few weeks. They do ship frozen. We sell them frozen too

100% marketing to sell them thawed in the meat section of grocery stores

And because people decide what they are going to cook in the grocery store, they want to buy things thawed to cook right away, IMO.

Frozen burgers are a great emergency meal.
They go on the grill frozen

Why the frick would you need a thawed fake burger?

My sister was borderline militant vegan. Constantly sending meme's,stats and facts about how meat is cruel blah blah blah(not full on PETA, she loathes them). Then one day, while we're out for her birthday she swipes some of my chicken marsala. To say I was smug would be an understatement, after telling her she'd cave eventually.

*yes, I do agree there needs to be a shift with how we prioritize meat bring the center focus of a meal. The waste, consumption of resources to produce 1 g of animal protein vs planted based yada yada but that doesn't mean I will like it

I have a solid black bean/brown rice/garbonzo bean "burger" recipe that makes thick patties that actually hold together and are hella tasty without pretending to be meat...

Yeah I'd just rather eat something that's not pretending to be something. A falafel whopper would be tasty I bet.

Not a huge fan of black bean burgers. They have too much bean flavor for me and end up being real mushy texture wise.

Are people claiming this stuff is super healthy here? I am not seeing that. Hell I shot a deer last Saturday and had some kind of fake meat burger again yesterday at our local ski hill. Hardly a vegan. Tastes good to me and doesn't require a methane emitting cow shitting in the river to make. Health rating is probably about the same as a real burger from my understanding which is to say probably not a good idea to eat large amounts of fake meat patty or real burger.

And I stand by what I said, you're making an idiotic association between "chemicals" or "processed foods" and health risks. As if the presence of one automatically led to the other. You could do a lot worse than a impossible burger when it comes to poisoning yourself, and the stuff in your diet that is a known risk factor for cancer has a good chance of being a lot more "natural" than fake meat.

no, it doesn’t cook “great” imo because freezing changes the structure of meat. Fresh meat >>> frozen meat. But if this garbage hyper processed animal protein substitute ends up cheaper than meat it’s got things going for it - like freezing better

no different than dog food or lays chips - neutral “Base” with added flavors aka salt

My God man!!! You have deciphered the previously unknown common denominator in the ice age. The ice age froze all the available meat, forcing the population of cave men and dinosaurs to eat and thus die from genetically mutated meat. Pure genius!

I ate the Carls Jr version and bought the same in patty form at the grocery store. The former was way better but doubtful I'll get another. The biggest problem with the latter -- as it cooks it smells like dog or cat food, so if anybody else is gonna do a comparison I recommend cooking it outdoors.

All this hoopla - figured I'd see what it's about - I just tried one. From what I can remember of Whoppers, it does indeed taste like one. Also makes you feel like you ate one. One and done. Won't say I regret it but sort of...yeah.

I would give Impossible meats another whirl but from a proper restaurant - this BK version is the only thing available in my region. More curious about it than thinking this is for me.
