What run is tortilla?
About halfway down Skyline, you can take a right turn into the gully that runs to the bottom of Skyline. It's a really short run.
Shortcut is skiing well, but just after it meets Robin's it's really thin and icy. Basically a sheet of ice full of rocks and little tree stumps. Not fun.
Sucks that I'll be out of town this week but this storm should make Mt Baldy resort fun and possibly Waterman might open. If my wife lets me, I'll sneak out tomorrow morning and check out Snowcrest for a few turns on mellow terrain.
If the storm late this week delivers, SoCal just might have another good season.

Made it to snowcrest for one quick lap. Upside down snow with a 5 cm rain crust and about a foot of powder underneath. One hand pit on a NE slope failed immediately.I stayed on mellow terrain so I didn’t bother with more tests. I saw a solo skier come down Waterman and he described similar conditions. Coverage is real good on the Angeles Crest.
The Angeles Crest was pretty icy on the way up at 7am.
The yahoo hikers are chomping at the bit to climb Baldy after the closure ended today, sadly the SAR guys will probably have a busy weekend.
wow, that is a low snow line. I'm guessing upper elevations are getting hammered by the wind. Hopefully snow play clowns get there fill prior to the weekend.

UPDATE: 6am Thursday 12/26/2019
You would think ‘Snowing at the dam’ would be a wonderful thing to hear. But, the reality is the roads are mess. There is at least 6″ at the tunnels, 1′ in the village and 2′ in the parking lot. The road is jammed at the tunnels and no sign of LA County. The forecast has 6″ to 10″ more on the way. Stay tuned while get to work.
The wind was forecast to swing about 270 degrees during the course of the storm, hoping that helped spread out the new coverage a bit.
My buddy in Baldy village is posting some deep accumulations. Heard the wrecks have already commenced and the tunnels blocked
wind forecast is no bueno. sitting this storm cycle out.
coverage is going to be awesome. good fun when freeze-thaw sets in.
FYI, Baldy plans to only run chair 1 for skiing on Friday, assuming stability allows it.
pretty exciting to see socal on opensnow's powder chase!
still sitting this one out, but exciting none the less.

I'm wanting to try out my new shift bindings prior to some planned Jan road trips, so thinking Baldy ski area Sat or Sun. Sunday seems like it might be less of a shit show. But if they get everything running today. Hopefully CHP will be enforcing 4x4/chain/# cars, at bottom of road.
#1 and 2 running, working on 3.
One and done with Big Tim.
Skied Morgans Grove over to Bentleys Dream and called it a day.
Usual Baldy with lifts buried but expected it.
Snow players were parked in the road again.

Did you guys skin up or take the lift? How's the snow quality? See any natural slides or control work with results?
Will probably go up tomorrow - early.
Rode the lift up.
A local was skinning up and making better time than us.
Lift line was over a hour easily.
I heard 2 hours.
Loading every other chair.
True 36 inches on the hill.
They were throwing hand charges which I never seen happen before.
Upside down pow, you want to be on top of it for sure.
Maybe the pow will be better higher up on Thunder.
Beats working I guess

Wow, that looks like bigger crowds than when tickets were free. Thanks for photos looks good up there, glad they got 3 going, hopefully the turns were worth the wait.
Thanks for the photos. I miss Baldy
Dear California: Please send some of that up North to Montana.
That rocks, though. Stoked for you guys! Enjoy!!!
Been cracking up watching the national news and seeing all the morans acting like it's the freaking apocalypse instead of celebrating like us weirdos. :)
^^^yeah, glad it turned out that this year was our year not to go to MSO for xmas.
Baldy ski area was fun today. 2nd customer loading chair 1 just after 8. Few laps on 2, before thunder opened. Chair 4 around 10. Finished with few laps on 1. Wind buff, old powder and hot powder turns. Legs done around 1:45. No crowds. CHP had road closed for uphill traffic, so drive down not bad.
Has anyone taken the team and skied the terrain around San Jacinto Peak before? Thinking about heading out there on the 1st.

^ Pretty sure 406 did a year or two ago, check the last few SoCal threads.
San J gets skied often, and there have been quite a few reports here. Seek and yee shall find.
Terrain is very mellow(except snow cr), so I only go up that way when all other options are out. NE slope of Jean peak is best for storm or soon after storm powder. SE slope of San Jacinto can have nice corn, but takes a lot of snow to fill in. Nice views from the top. ~3 mile slog on flat to get to each, following hiker path can be easier, but longer distance. Last year the road to the tram washed out, I think 2015 was the last time I was up that way. Make sure to get first or second tram and expect to see wilderness rangers, so have whatever paperwork they require these days.
Thanks.

A couple POV videos from Baldy ski area 12/28/2019, for some monday morning motion sickness :-)
Final run off 4 as the snow was heating up:

Fun day!
looks fun 406, nice one.
Very nice 406!
I'm back east right now, but I should be able to get a couple of Baldy days when I get back, probably Friday and maybe one this weekend. With the swell lining up the way it is Friday could be a surf AND ski day.
Thankyou 406 for the videos.
Happy that thick pow has consolidated to manageable levels to the parking lot.
Chair 4 looked untouched.
kind of a mess in the baldy bowl at the moment. natural mid-storm avalanche activity and wind has scoured a lot of terrain. the lookers left shoulder is scoured to white ice. some corn forming, but i think i'll hold off til the next storm cycle to return.

Check out today's photos of Telegraph chutes, also wiped down to ice. https://m.facebook.com/socalsnowavalanchecenter/

Skied off the summit of Mt. Baden Powell on New Years.
Went up/down the summer trail.
Skied in from the gate at Grassy Hollow visitors center. Had snow coverage the whole way, though on the return trip parts of the road were melting quickly.
Great wind-buff pow for the top 1500' but got pretty wet/manky after that.

Nice! I really want to ski Baden Powell soon. Probably ski Waterman next weekend if it opens again.
