Thanks dook for this thread. Here's an old but intense track with Mr Len, Slug, and Jean Grae (took me forever to find this track in my library because I thought it was an Atmosphere track). It turned me on to Jean.

This is all kinda hilarious, if you ask me. In one of your earlier posts you claimed there was a track with Atmosphere and Bahamadia (https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...25#post5695725) and, believe it or not, I actually spent the better part of this morning scouring the Webz to find a track that Slug and Bahamadia had done together, but to no avail (because, as far as I can tell, they have never rapped on a track together...at least not one that has ever been released).
Now you reveal that it was Jean Grae!!!
C'mon, dood, she and Bahamadia sound nothing alike!!!
:)
Haven't listened to much Bahamadia, but this was dope back in '95ish

Ha, my memory sucks sorry....that I sent you into a wormhole that wasn't necessary at all. These two posts are proof of how my mind (does not) work - often. It's frustrating - I know. And I don't even remember posting the first one about Bahamadia...and yes they don't sound anything alike! Yeesh.
But I put Jean Grae as the best female to do it. Holding it down with Pharoahe and Royce.

And Lyte dropped this classic in the midst of the single greatest year in the history of hip hop, with the same 808 beat that Audio 2 used for Top Billin'.
S'all good, man.
I got sucked down that wormhole on my own accord, if only because a friend of mine mentioned Little Simz in a FB post that I saw this morning, then I scoped her stuff out, which caused me to recall that I had started a thread about Femme Fatales of Rap, so I posted that link, which then caused me to revisit the thread to make sure nobody else had already mentioned Little Simz, whereupon I saw your earlier post about Bahamadia and Atmosphere, which then led to another wormhole vacation.
I skied on Wednesday and Friday and went to the National Auto Museum yesterday, so a morning of Webz saturation was okay in my mind.
:)
So, Audio Two was Kirk Robinson (Milk Dee) and Nat Robinson (Gizmo). They were on the label First Priority Music, which was started by their father.
Lyte was their childhood friend. Legend has it that when the elder Robinson entered into negotiations with Atlantic Records for a distribution deal, one of his major conditions was that Lyte would get a contract with Atlantic, as well. Funny how she went on to be more famous than his sons...
:)
Not sure why it didn't embed last night, here it is

knew they were on the same label, didn't know the backstory. Lyte might be more famous, but Top Billin is definitely a classic, and I was digging the whole I Don't Care album at the time
Snow Tha Product. She's independent and doesn't hoe herself out in videos, so most haven't heard of her. Been around since early 2010's.

Rapsody gets her grub on:

Doja Cat. Gonna be a star.

The current era of hip hop has some of the strongest female lyricists.
I thought Whack World by Tierra Whack was one of best hip hop albums of 2018. It's an experimental album that contains 15 1-minute songs
Eve by Raposdy could be the best hip hop album of 2019.
Leikeli47 is dope af too
Syd the kid also is super talented but she sorta blends the genre between hip hop and r&b with a strong lean towards r&b
There is all kind of rappers in our days. There is too much of them.
Doja Cat "Rules" reaction vid. There are a bunch that are funny. I agree with the ladies. DC has so many flavors.

Doja Cat is sorta garbage. Just a shock rapper, that's how she came to fame with Moo. She makes so-so beats and has so-so rhymes, nothing special.
she is really curvy and has a nice juicy ass tho

this chick is awesome
I'm not a well versed rap fan but Doja Cat gonna be big star. Rules is a dope vid.

Dunno much about this femme fatale, but I've been bumping this track (actually the whole album) for the past few weeks on my drive to/from work:
Caught the latest episode of Kweli's People's Party with Sa-Roc. No idea how she's been flying under my radar for so long. Sharecropper's Daughter is an amazing album, up there with any of the amazing albums of 2020. I'm gonna have to dive into some of her other stuff, but she could be at the top of the list.

Our Poet Laureate read some damn fine words at Biden's Inauguration. Helluva reading.
I'm not completely sprung on her flow, but damn if her lyrical discharge and metaphorical wordplay ain't tight, like hella tight.
Remy Ma and Rapsody dropping bars over a Primo beat?
Yes, please.
