also have always thought a successful "participatory journalist" sounds pretty awesome
just embed yourself with the best of the best of whatever you want to learn/ write about
challenging but fun
Honestly I'd love to be a ski shop monkey again, or a Whitewater photographer.... or both, since they're seasonal. That shit was fun. However the money banked since then in the "real world" would make both of those gigs even better.
Still wondering why OP doesn't or hasn't applied for his dream job yet.
Well, to be honest, I only have half the skill set needed for that job. I have some 20+years in snowmaking and grooming with a few years in lift ops. However, I have no experience with ski patrol, lift maintenance, food and beverage or rental operations.
If I had stayed in the industry full time, I would definitely be there by now. Instead, I took the guaranteed payout of a defined benefit pension plan, and now, I only have 3 more years before my employer will pays me to stay home. After that, it’s back to the mountains for full time snowmaking. Already checking the classifieds in anticipation, as you can see.....
Ok, I might have to get out of selling medical devices, my dream job just came along.

My dream job is proprietor of a vespa rental company in Biarritz, FR.
Unemployment doesn't suck though
CIAC just dropped a posting something pretty close to mine. Had a chat with Ethan Greene today about it….
In prison they call it cheeking.
My job is my dream job, but it doesn't pay, and I'm always having to fight for better equipment/more staff/not being shunted in to a shipping container in the parking lot. But I would happily do it for free if I didn't need any income.
so how much money is fuck you money?
"just a little bit more"

$100 to list, then 5% fee adds up fast. Google says in 2021 they had 20,000+ auctions with $828 million worth of cars and have only gotten more popular. (edit-$1.35 billion in 2022)
It does not seem like a super complicated operation, but I get the feeling being too small of a shop scares away investors.
Wow. $40+MM gross revenue is nice.
Didn’t realize it was that big.
I do enjoy the daily emails. If I had big money there’s so many cars I could buy there. Not just the usual collectors. Oddball shit as well.
