I'm just kidding around but yes, a little manic. Reminds me of how I used to think when I took adderall (not prescribed to me)

Yeah I went around on this topic with someone on here a few years ago, they were saying Grohe doesn't work well with "American" water, which is obviously nutty since there's no such thing as standard water. I think it may be true that Grohe is affected by water with high mineral content, or there may be something else at play, I'm not sure what exactly.
In our case I have a house full of 18-year-old Grohe stuff that looks and works like new, and I've used it in 3 other major projects and I've literally never had an issue. So, I dunno. Opinions do vary on it, that's for sure.
Cruiser, there's two points of restriction, one is in the spray head, it's basically just a matter of popping out a plastic disk. That does improve flow but doesn't free it completely. The other is in the line, that's a matter of getting a different valve I believe.
(the grohe you get at HD isn't the same as you might select at a bath/kitchen fixture showroom [& hansgrohe is a completely separate co])
Jeebus dude. I hope OCD doesnt run rampant in me when my kids leave the nest.
Fully commercial units are bad ass! Our friends at a camp they run have one. Sadly its a corner unit it's about 5' tall. Good luck I'd love to see what you come up with
Build one, oft. New project.

I'm honestly glad to hear it! We've had compressor failures (of course they have TWO of them!), gaskets, some kind of ice maker failure that I can't recall. I love the thing design and function wise. Wider and shallower is indeed the tits, but the service calls run several hundred bucks each time.
My general impression of the high-end kitchen stuff is that it is not designed to be really used. I take good care of my things, especially the expensive ones, and these failures continue. My timer switch on the Bosch DW recently shit the bed, and it was replaced ($350?) less than two years ago.
I also had Wolf 6-burner that was a piece of shit. Replaced it with a Blue Star (back when they were less ubiquitous) and have had far fewer issues.
I bought the Sub Zero because of space constraints in the kitchen I remodeled. It was really the only option that wouldn't be in the way. Is yours newer? I wonder if quality has gone downhill? I can barely hear mine when the compressor is on and it doesn't run very often. The ice maker works great, it isn't a door model ice maker though.
if you got high end kitchen shit you should be able to afford going out for dinner all the time instead of using it ;)
I have two Sub-Zeros, a Meile dishwasher and the same Six Burner Wolf, that all turned 10 this year. Not one service issue and I use them a lot.
Good thing I just sold this dump!
Growing up, we had a Wolf 6 burner and a SubZero fridge. The igniters on the Wolf were constantly going to shit, and the oven crapped out several times. The contractor tried to talk the old man into the full commercial version cause the electric ignition in the residential conversions wasn't up to snuff. The nice kitchen was being heavily subsidized by the insurance company after I burned the previous kitchen, and almost burned the whole house down. So, I can't blame him for being wary of the potential for the pilot lights to draw me in.
The Sub Zero was a pile. The old man watched and took notes during every warranty repair, then kept it running himself forever until they sold the house. He hated that fridge, but would have taken the Wolf with him if he could have.
Commercial DW would be badass, but wet dishes kind of defeats the purpose, no?
Washer/dryer is another set of appliances where commercial is attractive. Bring on the Speed Queen.
My kitchen ain't for show. Gets cooked in a ton and hosts large holiday feasts. Until recently it was the site of preparing 3 squares a day for 5 people. At the time I did the kitchen rethink I had more $ than I do now, so not much point in not using it all by eating out! Besides, I can eat and drink way better and cheaper at home.
My laundry machines are, always will be and always have been either used, reconditioned or free vintage machines. No circuit boards. They last forever, and when they die another one comes in for another $100. Way less than a service call.
I HATED the Wolf, Though I think we got a lemon to begin with. To me the Wolf is a dressed-up, cheap-ass, low-end Kenmore that costs $4000 or maybe more now? It doesn't do anything any better than a standard range but it looks like it should and I drank that KoolAid initially.
The oven door would blow open on every oven or broiler ignition. Scared the shit out of everyone. I got most of a new one from them under warranty, sold it the day it was delivered in the crate off the front porch and moved in the Bluestar. Still would like a real commercial range (don't mind lighting it by hand) but the lack of insulation on the back and sides is a home insurance issue. Still might do it sometime.
The sealed burners on the Wolf were impossible to keep clean. Bluestar or commercial gas ranges have open cast iron burners. Pieces fall through to the trap drawer below, liquids burn themselves away. And it gets way hotter with 2 22k burners.
The Sub-Z here is probably 15 years old or so now. Compressor has gotten more audible over the years.
Yeah the appliance repairman said you can thro a few parts at the old washers and they will run forever until the timer shits the bed or a center seal leaks, I have an old stackable set and seperate heavy duty units in the rental and they always run for real cheap
I did add the winky emoticon to my eating out comment
So I got tired of the BS cuz I hate pulling it out to jury rig and so today I broke up with my dishwasher,
I dropped that old Kitchenaid off at the dump and instaled a new Bosch,
cuz in " Joe's garage " Frank Zappa suggested you want to get a german appliance
hopefully this is the start of a beautiful relationship
^ Hunh, I’m considering doing that exact same swap - Kitchenaid->Bosch. I’ll be following your journey.
bosch gets 5 stars and LG gets 4.5 so it was gona be one of those 2 brands, the local store had a 100 $ off sale which put them only 50$ > Costco so entirely within the range of supporting the local and i didnt have to drive 400 kms and wank about getting junior to buy it for me so I bought the cheapest Bosch
Helluva thread bump! Hope you like the Bosch. Still have mine. My only gripe is servicing and the cost thereof which you probably won't have to do for a while. Some of my cycle buttons don't work anymore and the time display reads like some alien movie thing. Still washes dishes though. Still would like the commercial setup.
based on the idea that expensive complicated shit breaks down in more expensive more complicated ways and becuz I'm hearing that appliances are dying in 2 yrs, i got the bosch which consumer report gives the best 5 star rating
the local small town appliance retailer guy had a sale putting bosch within 50$ of costco/ home depot so it wasn't worth wanking about to save 50$ at a chain store 4 hrs down east and i got the cheapest Bosch model, the Ascenta @ 849can$ with an in store 100 off so $749 out the door
it washes VERY well, using them FINISH wash pucks old stains on tea/ coffee cups/ fry pans that never quite went away in fact any stain is completely gone and the dishes look like new except for the chips
the door has a very positive latch as opposed to the Kitchenaid where the door kept popping open so I used a bar stool wedged under the door handle to keep the door closed and running
I think it does run longer but its very quiet, I might be able to cut wash time
duno how your kitchen aid is hooked up but Bosch product uses a (included) 115v power cord so you might need to hang a box if you have hard wire, you probably want to get the 6' braided SS hose and you need the 90 degree brass elbow on the end to thread into the bosch water intake , this stuff all has rubber-washered ends that easily thread together without plumbers tape
Bosch seems to be a good product, I made good choice and i would go the same way in retrospect
^ Thanks for the beta. Good stuff.
I read through this whole thread, but I did learn a couple of things. Stick with cheap American appliances - check! No problem there. Also, people actually expect dishwashers to clean stuff off the dishes. Wow! I thought they just sanitized your already clean dishes. The cheap American ones only run for 60 minutes, bonus there.
Seriously oftpiste don’t be swayed by all these judgy lazy mags. If you want a commercial dishwasher you should get one. As a former dishwasher I have a ton of experience on the big pass through machines but not the smaller drawer ones. If it makes the holidays more enjoyable then what’s to debate?
actualy you can stick dishes with all kinds of smoo still on them/ no rinse and they come out looking spotless, I have been amazed by ze Bosch product
I got a buddy with a restaurant grade gas stove in his kitchen that is probably stuck there unless he can figure out ho to move the island, this thing has pilot lights that burnt 150$ worth of gas when he was on a trip out of country
I question the need for restaurant anything unless you are operating a restaurant
Your Bosch must have a macerator, which mine does not. Still does a decent job.
As previously stated, my desire is all about time. 90 minutes to wash a load of dishes is ridiculous.
Oh, and if I had a commercial stove in my house I'd disable the pilots and light burners with a stick lighter. Easy peasy, and way safer than pilots burning all the time in your house.
Don’t buy LG. No one except LG will work on them….if you can’t or don’t have the time to do it yourself.
oh, never mind.
LG is actualy ahead of samsung in ratings, almost bought an LG for 150$ less but decided mebe the 5 stars of Boschness would mean its not gona break
and of course its German eh if we are gona take Frank's advice
Only 1 appliance store and there wasn't anyone fixing appliances in town for awhile, I duno if the new outfit is any good, in any case i always fix appiances myself but I don't want to
Our Bosch just has a trap, which needs to get cleaned out like once a year. I believe everything else gets dissolved by the detergent, which is way more effective than it used to be. I went down the rabbit hole on this a few years ago after someone in another forum mentioned their dishwasher etched their water glasses. I was like "bullshit" then did some reading and was like "oh, shit".
I miss macerators.
Fucking screen Bosch trap always has funky food in there. Wife doesn’t even know it exists.
Commercial DW would be sweet. Need 220v.
