hey now, Peugeot makes some sweet rides to this day. I had a 89' 405 MI16 that drove like a race cart and sounded like a lawn mower. That thing had more electrical gremlins than all my other cars I have owned put together but when it was running right it handled like a race car. I think it required 3 days of repair for every day of driving toward the end.
Haha. Ain't that the truth?! However, I think I gained a few HP on my 1986 Subaru GL after I lost the muffler somewhere off-roading. That car was awesome. A total beater I picked up for like $250, but the body and interior were perfect. Power windows and everything. Car was ugly as sin with it's baby poop yellow color, but boy was that car fun. Cheaper than a go-kart and I treated it as such, but street legal! But yes, that car was slow as frozen molasses. You'd floor it, and the engine would work so hard, but you'd be barely going anywhere. I think I clocked 0-60 at like 15 seconds. Then again, it did have over 200,000 miles. I drove that poor car hard and abused the piss out of it, and it took all the abuse pretty superbly. The perfect college car! No way could most modern cars take the kind of punishment that those older cars could. Kids these days don't know what they're missing out on.
Honestly I am stoked on the BBS CH-R's on my car and I think they woud look good on yours too but it's a matter of taste. They are fairly light-ish, strong and not all THAT expensive. But the BEST thing about them is the polished stainless lip they come with. Awesome feature. You curb them, you pull the lip off and replace it for $50 and you can easily do it yourself. No tools required. Hell no skill required. If you get the bright silver ones the lip blends right in, you can't even see it: http://bbs.com/en/products/performance_line/ch-r.php
There are probably other wheels out there with this feature but I don't know of them. You can buy the lips from BBS America or Tirerack, same exact price. ~$52. or so.
The titanium ones would look good on your car too but the lip stands out against the titanium.
The lip is seriously killer. trust me on this.
It's like a mulligan.
Don't get 20's. 19s are perfect for that car or 18's if you want to err on the side of caution for bad roads.
I'm with CL, I like the stock on that whip. However the rims that Ice posted are really sharp and the removable lip is a feature I wish I would have had on many waaaaay-too-expensive BMW rims.
It's tough to find an after market wheel that doesn't make me look like some modding douchebag but bbs has some solid offerings. The replaceable rim is a huge draw. That scrap makes my skin crawl.
Yikes.
BMW Wheels
The BBS CH-R second row center is clearly the best looking wheel there.
imo
I'm a stock homer and most of those that show up in that link are the newer gaudy BMW wheels. I love the traditional powdercoat BMW wheels, like a lot of these. But that's like, just my opinion man.

Yeah, no.
Well, that's because you're an Audi guy, clearly. ;)
Clearly.
Or perhaps its because I'm not stupid. Somewhere in there.
Easy bro.
Like CL's rims, I usually think that the manufacturer gets it right for the overall design. Keeping it wagon stoke I always though these were tight.

He owns an Audi. And yet you persist with the BMW shit. Curious.
Really I was just professing my favor for stock rims and using the BM rims as an example, but whatever.

My first wagon.
I was feeling a bit ornery last night, sorry. BMW stock wheels are better than Audi but to me both are an afterthought to their respective manufacturers and are best used for snow tires.
Now these wheels I like:

although the rear one looks a bit odd, I guess it's just the pic? Or it got mashed. Not sure.
Feels like a wagon

Crude but fun from years ago, Volvo wagons with the mustang drivetrain swap. Looking back it's pretty lucky no one got hurt given the stupid things done in that setup.

This is a "Saabaru." It's a WRX with slightly different body and interior, but mechanically all Subaru WRX.
I think for my next car something like this will do:

Don't like the wheels.
ha.
Oh..heh. This image was one of the first to come up when I searched the 9-5 and it looks enough like the 9-2 wagon that that's what I thought it was:

But yeah, definitely different.
Actually, I agree with you. Wheels are easy to change. This one looks better

A mustang drivetrain in a 7series Volvo wagon!?! I need to hear about this.
In the nineties Ross Converse started doing these conversions on rwd Volvo's, 240's, 7series and 9series. He ended up doing cars for Paul Newman and David Letterman. A couple of gear head friends did a 240 and 740, after taking a spin I had to have one...

they haven't made that in a stick since '05 though. still fetch > $10k here with 100-150k on the clock. not worth it. I couldn't find one for under $15k when I was looking ~3 years ago.
