For Remembrance Day for our Canadian cousins.

My grandfather who was at first Ypres as a cavalryman with the Poona Horse and survived WWI in the Royal Flying Corps having been shot, torpedoes, stabbed and gassed at different times.

My Uncle Dave who flew with the RCAF when Canada had the fourth largest air force 1941-1945 with the 427 Squadron. The longest my uncle was in Canada was for RCAF training in Brandon, Manitoba in 1941 and with his position on a Lancaster in 1944.

2022 BUMP

I had the honor to have shared a dinner table with Talisman’s kid brother. Ate an enormous amount of bbq brisket, and then played horseshoes. Paratrooper with the 82nd, cool guy. Sorry that he passed so young.

Thanks for bumping this thread Harry. For our Canadian cousins here is a picture of my uncle (middle) who was an RCAF aircrew on various types bombers out of the UK 1941-1945 with the RCAF 408 Squadron though he wasn't from Canada and other than training never lived there.

And if you feel we sent you on a stupid or misguided mission, I appreciate it that much more. And offer my apologies for not electing better leadership. We're all human and make mistakes. Until we figure out lasting peace, you're very much needed. Thanks for giving your best.

A bit late but thanks for your service all of ya'll that served. As someone who hasn't had to put ones life on the line for someone else.. let's just say you ex-service folks have my eternal gratitude. Remembrance Day, yo!

2024 BUMP

The military went woke in 1944 when the manpower shortage in Europe forced them to allow women into the services to do the admin and non combat jobs. Mom was the most woke person I ever knew and enlisted in the SPARS for an adventure and to help the was effort. Funny story. Mom and a SPARS friend went to a baseball game in DC. Two men seated behind them kept up a barrage of insults and nasty comments ending with one of the men spilling a beer on mom's friend who started crying so they left. They met two sailors on the way out who asked what was wrong. Mom told them the story and the sailors asked her go back into the stadium with them and point out the culprits. Mom heard later, that the sailors beat the crap out of the men in the parking lot after the game.
