In highschool, my friend's dad had a maroon '86 911 SC. Beautiful car. At one point he was thinking about trading in on a new Turbo, but thankfully(after I convinced him not to) he decided that he didn't want a new Porsche.
If he asked me about a Singer 911 though, I'd tell him to do it in an instant.
I love those things.
another great one

my old '73 '02. You can still see this one cruising around Boulder as I sold it to a HS kid out there.

I have always wanted one of these. I sold a Euro Bimmer to a local dealer here once and he had one of these. I took it for a short ride. For me probably the ultimate car. Better looking than the original E-type jag and the equivalent of an Aston Martin DB5

I'm a "car guy" and I love the lines of the Z8.
I drive over the 520 bridge everyday between Seattle and Bellevue and just look for cars. Today I saw a AM Vanquish and a Ford GT. The latter was a rare gem. Saw an Aventador at the Bravern at the end of the summer. GTR's and Loti are a dime a dozen out here. Tons of moms in G wagons.
Anyone mentioned the DB5, 1964? Form, function, class.

Yeah, I have a picture of one below my old '02. I'm not sure about it because I just can't make up my mind, but the DB5, probably is the best looking car ever (in my own not so humble opinion).
yeah me too. Especially the one with the Vette engine and 6 speed.

My Dad's golfing buddy bought one of these brand new back right after I graduated HS. He let his son and I take it out for an afternoon while our dads were on the course. I only got to drive it for about 20 minutes but man, was it sweet - and powerful. The lines on that thing just exude sex. I still get to see it about once a summer at my Dad's club. Looks like it's been wiped with a diaper for 10 years.
Good call! (I'm preferential to the silver though)
that Aston Zagato has the superlegerra (tubular space frame) chassis also (like the maserati birdcage i put on the first page) really awesome car.
something less high performance but still super cool, the Fiat Multipla

Speed bumps would appear to pose a serious challenge to that rig.
and if we are going to get into the karmann ghia, praise must be given to the original and rare type 3 karmann ghia

^^ god i love the 718. beautiful.
i still prefer the older '56-'59 lowlight ghias... the type 3 didn't come out till '61.
Other love: this one's a really early 1954 barndoor- i just get all giddy when i see the original Dove blue. Ahh...

I always enjoy a good look through the micro car museum- the virtual tour is currently down cause they're having an auction, but here's the site. looks like they're about to auction off everything.

I'm not really a car guy but I've always had a thing for the little 2 door Mercedes like the 300SL or the 230SL

On a side note, I had the opportunity to do a cocktails and hors d'oeuvres with a small group at Jon Shirley's garage about 10 years ago. That was awesome! I didn't take a camera but a quick google search turned up some pictures. That guy knows a thing or two about Ferrari's...

It wasn't a speed demon but I always had a place in my heart for the '69-'73 Nissan 240z.
Probably going to get stoned for saying that.
Not the same model, but my buddy Nate's:

yeah stash searcher, i guess i was not totally clear on the early history of the karmann ghia, its weird that it started with one design, went to the type 3 and then kinda back. thought the type 3 was first. lived in LA for a couple of years and a guy down the street had a type 3- pretty sweet. love the busses too would like to get a transporter at some point....
we just gave away an engineless red '72 vw bus last week.. still have a '57 panel that just needs an engine and a once-over, and a '53 singlecab that needs a LOT of work.
if anyone out there would like any information of any kind on volkswagens, thesamba.com is rad. history, photos, classifieds... it's kind of like the tgr of the vw world. with less vulgarity, unfortunately... :)
this makes me want to go play in the garage... gotta do some cleaning and move the sandrail out of the garage so we can get back into the soon to be v-8 powered rx7 project! cause as soon as that puppy's done, i can work on my ghia again! yay!
dont know if this is a car or a motorcycle or what but its pretty rad that it works at all. my gf in high school's dad had a 512 berlinetta boxer. still remember that sound....

Some mouth-watering cars here for sure. While I love the technical feats of cars like the Veyron....(easily one of the most efficient braking systems ever engineered for a car), I in terms of a car's form, I guess I'm a traditionalist. I love the look of the euro 50s and 60s. cars...not all of them, just certain ones:When I was a kid, I swore that if I ever got a 60's 911, I have the headlight bezels painted body color and the chrome trim blackened so it would look like a "modern" 911. LoL, funny how tastes change as one gets older....thank God!!!http://www.dragtimes.com/images/1851...orsche-911.jpg]Other cars in my own private porn stash:Jaguar XK 140 coupehttp://www.motorstown.com/images/jag...0-coupe-02.jpgMorgan roadster...this one is the new one they're making now at the Morgan factoryhttp://i2.cdn.turner.com/money/galle...n_roadster.jpgThe mid-fifties Mercedes 300 SLs have already been mention, but are so classy that they deserve another mention...I have a soft spot for the 300 SL and 190 SL roadsters:http://www.blogcdn.com/www.luxist.co...s-300-sl-1.jpgNot that America hasn't put out some beauties:http://dayerses.com/data_images/post...eedster-11.jpg1963 Corvette split-window coupe:http://www.remarkablecars.com/main/c...ette-003-3.jpg and of course no car-porn is ever complete without a centerfold of the ultimate road...the road-touring version of the incredible Porsche 917:http://world-viewer.com/data_images/...oad-car-04.jpg
We were talking about the 917 a few months ago, what an absolutely insane car.
Just found this googling the car again just now: Bad Day At The Office!
OK. I grew up with a car-nut dad who was not wealthy but managed to have some neat rides, all of which I remember enjoying being a passenger in. $3000 is the number I remember him associating with all of these.
The earliest cool car I remember him having was a 1957 Ford T-Bird. Cream colored, removable hard top with portholes. He rigged up a pully system in the garage that would allow him to raise the hard top to the ceiling when he wanted to engage in open motoring. It looked exactly like this (feel free to embed these links if anyone has the time or gives a shit)
http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/phot...oto.aspx#photo
He sold that for, as I recall, around $3000 and bought a 1962 MB 190 SL. Again, 2 hard tops and the pulley system designed for the T-bird came in handy. It looked like this except, again, cream in color.

Then he got this little jewel. It was a mechanical nightmare, but an incredibly cool car. I remember him driving me to the airport once in the rain, and my sole purpose in life was to hand-operate the wipers by reaching out my window and moving them with my hand. 1964 Ferrari ASA.

Then there was one of these, 1965 VW square back. This color...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kasho3/.../pool-type3vw/
Simultaneously and upon remarrying, he handed my stepmom the VW and got himself one of these, a 1962 MB 220 SE Coupe. I had never and still haven't ever seen another one that was a 4-on-the-floor. First gear was geared to climb vertical surfaces and thus was rarely used, probably extending the life of the tranny. I was in college when he sold it (for a Honda goddamit) and begged him to sell it to me (my slightly older car-nut cousin wanted it too, but no dice!), which he wouldn't on the premise that I'd never be able to maintain it. He might have been right, but I wish to god he'd have let me have it. It looked just like this. RIP dad. Love ya.

thanks man. we need to get a drink or sumpin' soon. ping me if you have some time.
My dad and I joined the SCCA when I turned 16. I had my souped up Integra that was pretty legit for handling but by no means fast (I think you have to beat a Camaro z28 in a 1/4 mile to be considered fast at all), and he had one of these 1988 targa's, white with black rims. It was owned by one single man, with 150k miles on it, and only the driver seat had any wear at all. Thing ran like new. People talk about the difference between the 60's-early 90's mehcanical cars vs. computer cars... this 88 targa was fucking tits. ALLLL MACHINE. We loved railing on that thing on the street and the track. Thunderhill and Sears Point are the bomb. Lowered to Euro spec.

He put a whale tail on it before he sold it. Kinda made me lose my stiffy for it. It was still a rad car, but I liked it traditional.
