Yep, got the DVR set (on past my bed-time). Hopefully the interview doesn't turn into a Lindsey Vonn/Tiger Woods shitshow :(

A little awkward at points (fast girls...) but a good interview.
Bumping this thread up since she deserves to have her own thread rather than be buried in one of Vonn's drama threads.
So far this year:
1st - Slalom (Soelden)
6th - GS (Soelden)
2nd- GS (Beaver Creek)
Currently in second Overall
Oh, and she is still only 18.
The hype machine is definitely building as we inch closer to the Olympics.
I hope the media attention doesnt overwhelm her come olympics time. She is 100% favorite for SL and a contender for the GS
Agreed. How much control does an athlete have over media interactions at the games? Does she have to go to everything her sponsors tell her to go to? Or can she say "I'm only doing these two interviews today and then I'm concentrating on my event." ?
Does the USST have some control over protection of their athletes? Or do they tell them to get out there and promote the USST!
At least Lindsey is still planning on racing which should occupy the cameras for a while.
She is an amazing skier. She just started competing in GS this year (on the WC) and places 6th and 2nd! Looking forward to seeing her compete in all 4 disciplines eventually.
She actually started entering GS races the first year competing in FIS. She worked a lot on it over the off season and we can see the results. You can see her steady improvement in GS last year. Those GS results are a big reason she finished 5th overall last year (only a 40 points behind Mancuso).

World Cup. World Champion. Olympic Gold medal. Age 18. Greatness.
MIKAELA WOO!
So, she has nothing left to do in the SL world.
Congrats Mikaela
enjoyed watching your SL tonight. you will go far. Nice recovery. not to often you hear I was going to fast into that flush and had to recover. IE I was killing it so fast and the course switched to a flush where you gain speed and I kept it together to win GOLD.
awesome performance today
Guess all those drills skiing on one foot paid off.
Ya, sure, but can she dolphin turn?
That was a impressive display of maturity, and skill in that second run.
Here is some local news flavor:

And a story from when she was a freshman at BMA:

congrats shiffrin!!!
that recovery was HUGEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shiffrin in women's slalom and Ted in GS were the two most impressive alpine performances in Sochi IMO... but I missed the men's super-G (about to watch now).
Looks like she finished making the post Olympic publicity rounds and is back in Europe to finish out the WC season.

This is also a good read. Especially the embedded graphic.

sheborsum
1st race of the season, 1st career GS win. Not bad. Will she be able to make a run at the overall title this year?

Too about about the fall at the end of her GS run yesterday, still up by .68 at the last split when she went down.

Crushed it in the slalom today though! 3 seconds WTF?!

Won by 2.65 with an edge catch at the start of run two. Pretty fucking dominant.
She's crazy good...
She is crazy hot.
^^^Yup.
Yeah all of them. Nothing beats a chick who rips!

yup yessir mmmhmm.
She was born in Vail, but both her parents are from/raced in VT (I believe), and she was always a VARA (VT racing) racer growing up. Her father worked at Dartmouth and was always pretty involved in the VT ski racing machinery (again, VARA--their slogan: keeping ski racing first in VT, and VT ski racers first in the world (mission accomplished)).
I expect multiple overall globes for MS in the next few years, and she could set 'modern' records for time differentials in SL. I know she's been training SG over the past year (I think she may enter some this year), and once she has speed events dialed in it's over for everyone else. She could really be the female Stenmark. I would say more talented than Vonn, even (If you look at where she was back when she was MS's age (and her name was Kildow), she has nothing on MIkaela).
Her balance is second to none in the race world. Her ability to keep her chest and head down the fall line is just incredible. She has mastered the separation of upper and lower body.
