I just about cried when he won Tahiti because his passion was so evident. Big fan.
I'm not "maligning" the dude either, but you don't start off with a drug like methadone to control pain. You basically have two uses for the drug; chronic pain, and heroin addction. It would be really easy to "get off schedule" if you started taking it in the first place. I'm not saying this influences the impact of his death in any way. He's a world class athlete, and surfs like one. As a person that spends time with addicts every day, I want to say that I've never seen him behave like an addict. Jesus, look at Flea.
This is sad because a world class athlete just died. He has a wife and a kid on the way. Let's just focus on the actual loss, and not the media speculation.
A few years ago, I decided that I wanted to try surfing, but only after seeing Andy surf. The loss of so many influential and inspriational athletes is getting tougher.
No matter how he passed, I'm glad I was able to witness his pure talent.
RIP, grew up in the islands watching you. 808 is a sadder place without him :(

i think i might actually agree with Hugh on this one. whatever happened, it doesn't need to be turned into a conspiracy or controversy. people were already questioning his death and Outside didn't conclusively answer anything. They just pulled up a lot of stories that lead you to arrive at a negative conclusion.
