Running into happy, smiling folks on a ski tour is never a bad thing. Sharing a skin track with a bitter, non-talkative fuck is interesting. But I laugh at people like that, because too bad for them they can't enjoy themselves. Grrrrr...go get 'em Tiger, as you race up to Days Fork with a mind full of angst and bitterness.
Same thing goes for the heli. I used to waste a lot of energy acting like it pissed me off. Perhaps age has mellowed me, but I could care less about the heli.
I think most of us have more pressing concerns in life than to worry about who put in the skin track, or how many people are ahead.
In my JONGish opinion, threads and TRs will probably lead people to heard to the good spots. But it would be difficult (though not impossible) to quantify the actual impact.
That's the negative.
The positive is that I've noticed this crew and many of the OG's are really good at promoting awareness. Even if it is in a not-so-nice manner. After getting slammed once in here, I learned my lesson about how I talk about BC trippin'. Thank you My Pet Powder Goat.
The long and short of it is that dumb people will heard and smart ones will avoid those places.
The more experience BC trippers have a lot of knowledge to offer here and do a good job of keeping people informed.
Its not letting me upload any images or links, so just copy and paste. This was off of LP's FB page, supposedly taken this morning on Baldy...

I don't want to give away anyones stash, so I will just say I was somewhere in tri canyons, and it seemed deep...for January :fm:.
About a foot of fluff on top of a pleasantly consolidated base. Only tagged one rock over about 2500 of vertical. Didn't observe anything that made me the least bit alarmed to be out, so take that for what it is worth. Amazing morning to be out; I was really blown away with how "winterish" it looked.
Cubicle observations include a huge shit eating grin, and a bit of dawn patrol stank covered up with cheap cologne. Awesome.
how bout this, stop taking pics and posting reports...
Pole deep on the shoulder. Maybe slightly deeper. 40ish inches.
A slight layer of ice at the bottom of all this new snow. Maybe Saturday's stuff melting around. Any rocks we hit had the sheen of ice over them.

Second into main chute this AM. Nipple deep blower, didn't hit anything in the chute. Were a few sharks lurking after exiting, but the lower frozen layer from the warmer storm on Saturday is helping.
This is awesome.
Next major event is looking like it swings in from th SW- like through Central Cali/Tahoe then into UT. At least that's what the AM Nam and GFS models were looking like when I checked them this am.
I checked in to Alta craziness this morning about 7 and had 3 sweet laps on Greeley. Hit no rocks or anything, and I was on skinny skis! Saw maybe ~100 people spread out over Alta, but I'll take if for a last minute decision to go skiing in October. A lot of goods to be had out there, I was way surprised with how good this morning was.
Oh. Fuck. Yes!
this is fucking awesome. next weekend is going to be my first in utah. making the move from maine. this might be a retarded question but where im from we usually arent skiing till 1st week of december. how does this compare to seasons in the past as far as early season snow goes?
A little nasty going up, but really nice for 10/27. Some face shots on the shoulder. As I was hiking, I ran into a guy who lost his ski on the Baldy shoulder. Bummer.
Nice to meet you up there, Jtrue. Over the boots.
lionel you're killing it.. keep em coming.
We started at the crack of 11:30am, cause I spend mornings wrenching on motos on October, not getting out of bed early to do something silly, like skiing.
Tom forgot his sunglasses.

Crowded in the pen, but who cares, everyone is smiling.

WTF? The entire mountain is tracked out, but what's that to the skiers left of Main Chute? By golly, nobody has skied that yet.
http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/y...1/DSCF3369.jpg
Still hasn't been hit.
http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/y...1/DSCF3373.jpg
Still hasn't been hit, but Main Chute is getting hammered by the herd.

Nice to be back in the hills.

Got to the top of Baldy and skied the line just skiers left of Main Chute. Hit maybe two rocks, the rest was pretty much perfect.

Went up for another lap. Normally I wouldn't post such shitty, blurry pics. But my camera is busted, and hey, it's October, so.........

Little billy goat to sneak in to the bottom of Main Chute.

Great day. Time to go ride motos for another month. See you then.
I took this photo under Devil's Castle this morning.

All you guys are now on my shit list
;)
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Fuck North Carolina.
Well done all.
Not much different that being on a chair with folks from outa town who just are having a good time being where they are in the moment. As opposed to the "pain train" mentality in some spots.
That being said, I'm ready to take my Dukes and Factors into somebody's pool and start pissing...nicely of course.
I set the bootpack at the crack of 6 this morning, that sucked.
Ordered dynafits as soon as i got home.

"I don't usually ski Alta. But when I do, I prefer preseason blower."
Today was a blast, beautiful day to be out in the mtns, and happy folks everywhere.
THis thread makes me all kinds of crazy happy.
Just FKNA awesome. Really looks a lot like october 2007. I wonder why...
^^^^hilarious!!! I'm ready for more, much more. Great way to start. Praise be to Ullr.
N-NE skied very deep above 9500 today. The snow came in right side up and finished off with some utah fluff.

yet another ec'er movin to foofyland.
read the reports carefully. i remember my 1st winter out there pre-intertoobz.
i called the avy report and it said that 3-4 feet was expected with the incoming system. i was very young at the time and thought i'd heard bruce wrong. he must've meant 3-4 inches, no? nope, that storm was a life changer fer sure.
have fun, be safe and come home with tall tales. we'll leave the light on for ya.
rog
